Chapter 73 What was found in Yan Yu's room...
When Yan Yu arrived at the Yan family home, it was already in complete chaos. Of course, he wouldn't say anything about drinking it while it was hot, because he didn't use the internet.
When Yan's parents saw Yan Yu, they had expressions of relief on their faces.
"Yan Xun hasn't come back all night," Yan's father said hurriedly.
“No rush.” Yan Yu remained unhurried. “I heard about this last night…” He glanced at Sun Zhao in the courtyard. “I will also help with the search during this time.”
"Wusheng Village is only so big, they definitely won't disappear."
Perhaps because his attitude was too certain, Yan's parents were quickly calmed down. They exchanged a glance, and finally Yan's father looked at Yan Yu again, "If that's the case, then of course it would be best."
"...Oh, that brat, I wonder where he's run off to."
Yan Yu thought for a moment and then asked, "I can help you look for it."
"However, we need some of Yan Xun's personal belongings."
"This will make it easier to locate him."
Upon hearing this, Yan's parents immediately nodded, eager to take Yan Yu to his room. "Then hurry up and go," Yan Xun's mother said. "His luggage is all there; nothing is missing."
Yan Yu nodded, then glanced at the college students in the courtyard, "Thank you for your hard work too."
Ruan Yun glanced at Yan Yu, then looked away. Meng Zhi, however, smiled awkwardly. "Don't mention it. We're eating and staying here for free, so of course we should help with this."
Sun Yue seemed to be half asleep and was a little slow to react. Gu Jia was not in the yard.
Sun Zhao looked at Yan Yu and saw Yan Yu walking towards him.
He was somewhat wary.
"Did you find an axe last night?" Yan Yu suddenly asked.
Sun Zhao looked away. "No."
Yan Yu nodded. "Then it seems I was mistaken." He looked at Sun Zhao. "Last night, it seemed like an outsider entered Cimu Hall... I felt that person's figure looked somewhat like yours."
Sun Zhao would never admit it, of course, but fortunately Yan Yu only gave him a casual warning and didn't really intend to pursue the matter further.
He nodded to the group of strangers before leaving the courtyard with Yan Xun's parents.
As soon as Yan Yu left, Ruan Yun looked at Sun Zhao and asked, "Did you go to Cimu Hall last night?"
She realized her question was ambiguous after asking it, "I mean you went inside?"
“Yes.” Sun Zhao nodded. “He almost found out.”
"There's an axe in the Cimu Hall; it was bought from the mall."
“That’s it,” Ruan Yun said. “In a few days, we’ll have to find a body in the pond.”
No one in the movie knew where Yan Xun went, and no one saw him in the village until his body was found in the pond.
“It shouldn’t be in Cimu Hall,” Sun Zhao said.
Yan Yu couldn't possibly have hidden Yan Xun in the Cimu Hall; that place was too conspicuous. There were many vacant houses in Wusheng Village, so he guessed that Yan Xun was probably hidden in one of the unused houses.
Thinking of this, he looked at Ruan Yun and the other woman, "Did you find any clues when you went to Yan Yu's room yesterday?"
Ruan Yun and Meng Zhi exchanged a glance.
"Let's talk in the room."
They intended to befriend Sun Zhao in order to share the clues they had discovered.
Sun Zhao glanced at Sun Yue, "Where is she?"
Meng Zhi thought to himself, "She didn't even go with us to look for clues yesterday, and she wants to reap the benefits today?"
Just as he was about to refuse, Ruan Yun said, "Come on, let's come together."
"The three of us can't clear this dungeon on our own."
Meng Zhi actually wanted to ask if having more Sun Yue would allow him to clear the level, but he knew it was unnecessary to worry about such a trivial matter, so he could only nod.
Since they called out Sun Yue, it wouldn't make sense not to call out Gu Jia—but Meng Zhi and Ruan Yun still couldn't be sure whether this person was a player or an NPC.
So Meng Zhi tentatively asked, "Where's Gu Jia? Should we invite him to come along?"
Sun Zhao shook his head, "No need, there's no need to call him."
Meng Zhi then exchanged a glance with Ruan Yun, finally confirming his thoughts—
Gu Jia is indeed an NPC!
……
Ruan Yun and Meng Zhi share a room; they are a couple in the movie, so this arrangement isn't surprising.
“Yesterday, after those two from the Yan family went back to their rooms to rest, we went to Yan Yu’s room,” Meng Zhi said after sitting down. “Thanks to Ruan Yun for finding out the location of Yan Yu’s room first.”
Ruan Yun nodded.
Upon entering the movie instance and seeing Yan Yu, she kept asking questions, mainly trying to gather information. Sure enough, she found Yan Yu's room.
"Is there something wrong with his room?"
“We found this in his room.” Ruan Yun handed the phone to Sun Zhao.
Sun Zhao saw the letters that Ruan Yun had photographed. They were all correspondence. The sender's name was unfamiliar, but the name Yan Xun was mentioned frequently. It seemed that the sender was Yan Xun's parents.
The letters were mostly about trivial matters.
They talked about all sorts of family matters, and when they mentioned Yan Xun, they always spoke with a reproachful tone, saying that Yan Xun was naughty and difficult to discipline.
The letters were sent approximately once every six months.
“It seems they’ve always been in contact,” Ruan Yun said.
“That’s not surprising,” Sun Zhao said. “When we entered the village, Yan Yu even called his parents.”
"Since they know that Yan Yu is married, it proves that they have maintained contact all these years." But Yan Xun has never returned to Wusheng Village in all these years since he was born.
Sun Zhao, who was sitting in the back seat at the time, could sense the subtle apprehension that Yan Xun's parents had towards Yan Yu.
Several times when Yan Xun tried to say something to Yan Yu or touch the jewelry on the other's body, his parents would interrupt him with various excuses.
Whether it was the sudden braking or the subsequent reminder from Yan's father, it all revealed one thing: the relationship between this family of three and Wusheng Village was not as close as it appeared.
Even Yan Xun's parents probably knew that Wusheng Village had a secret, which is why, although they were anxious after Yan Xun's disappearance, they did not plan to go out at night.
"Do you think his parents are really in a hurry?" Meng Zhi said. "They don't seem that anxious to me."
"You came here because of that streamer? Didn't a pig squeal appear during the live stream?"
“We searched around the village and asked some elderly people, and they all said that no pigs were raised in the village and there were no pigsties,” Meng Zhi said. “This doesn’t make sense.”
Each of them only knows up to their own "death," and nothing happens after that.
"Is Yan Xun really missing?" Sun Yue suddenly asked.
“I guess he’s been hidden,” Sun Zhao said.
“Finding him won’t help,” Ruan Yun said. “According to the script, he has to die in the pond…”
She paused abruptly as she spoke.
"What's wrong?" Meng Zhi, who had been her partner for a long time, immediately asked.
“In the movie, villagers found Yan Xun’s body while fishing in the pond…” Ruan Yun said hesitantly, “Because Yan’s parents were too sad and fainted from crying, and the temple fair was about to start, they could only hold a hasty funeral in order not to offend the Goddess of Compassion.”
“But in the script, Yan Yu appears very calm,” Ruan Yun said.
She didn't find it strange when she read the script, since anyone could see that Yan Yu wasn't human, and since it was only the first time she had met Yan Xun, there was no reason for her to be sad.
But after two days of the story unfolding, and after seeing these correspondences, Ruan Yun began to feel that something was amiss—
If Yan Xun really died like this, Yan Yu would definitely not have reacted like this.
