Chapter 704 - Visiting the in-laws: Shareen Territory (Part 4)
I gave him a smile and then telepathically explained to him that I just want his family to have a good impression of him. I want his family to see the value and benefits he can bring to the household. I also added that I wanted to avoid saying too many things early and getting a bad first impression since I am technically a stranger though I just became their daughter-in-law. I do not want them to think that someone whom they just met was meddling too much.Seeing that her grandson has noted down so many points for improvement, suggestions and observation points about how the different farms they own and the other businesses under the Tilden family, the baroness ended up calling on to his trusted people for an urgent meeting at the barony’s central office so things can be discussed more clearly. She looked pretty excited and she even gave a proud look towards Helios as she was giving her instructions to her personal attendant to call on her people.
It seems that wherever we go, me and Helios can’t escape solving business issues and these darn meetings. The only difference was it is just a different project, happening in a different place and I guess, serving a different boss. It is not like we can say no at this point. Since grandmother was already so excited to discuss the problems of her territory with us, hoping that my husband (and me, I think?) can find and share more creative and long-term solutions for them, we don’t have the heart to turn her down.
What started as a reunion between family members and the new in-law ended up being a brainstorming meeting to improve the overall business direction and wealth management of the territory. My husband looked like he was so done with everything that was happening around him after only 30 minutes into the meeting.
Helios suddenly decided to lean his head on my shoulder and then he even looped his arm around my waist. It was a very intimate gesture that was so unusual of him. He disliked public displays of affection like this but I guess he was making everyone see that he is quite favored by me for some reason and that he is bored and tired.
Since my husband had suddenly turned into a clingy person then even refused to speak no more than he had already did, I had no choice but to become his official spokesperson while he just murmured things that he wanted to say in my ear. My father-in-law simply smiled and shook his head helplessly at his son who became a softy and clingy man all of a sudden. The meeting lasted for 2 long hours because the territory did have a lot of issues.
My husband and I finally breathed a sigh of relief when we heard that the meeting was adjourned. We are finally out of that meeting room filled will old noisy people. Thinking about another reunion that was bound to happen in the evening, I requested from the baroness for some time to rest for a bit so we were given a room to stay in while we are here.
Once inside the room, my husband shamelessly removed all his outer clothing until he was down to only his undies. He then pulled me to the bed for a snuggle and a nap. We discussed a few random things while in bed until we fell asleep. Before we know it, it was dinner time and we sluggishly left the warm and comfy bed.
At the dining table, it was quiet and tense when we arrived. As expected, not all members of the Tilden household are happy about a direct heir suddenly appearing and formally being added back into the family tree.
As for Helios and I, we ignored all the shady relatives and spent the rest of the evening talking to relatives that are worthy of getting close to. We even made comments telepathically about each one just like some judgmental person. The activity was kind of weird but very amusing to the both of us for sure and at times, we even ended up laughing with only the two of us knowing the reason why.
In the end, I could not help but agree to stay for a few more days with the reason of letting Helios spend more time with his paternal family. In truth though, I know that it was also to give me and Helios the time to draft a more comprehensive action plan for the coming year to pull up the profits for the Tilden barony. We needed to apply all the solutions and improvements that we have brainstormed and decided on as a group during the meeting. We even made structural plans to improve, repair and add more to the facilities in the farms.
With four heads working together (me, Helios, father-in-law and the baroness), work was lighter and the result even better that we shocked even our own selves. With the notes that we took down diligently, we were able to effectively include the plans for the pieces of land that we have acquired from the Drusilla territory from before and especially after the issues on corruption they have faced.
We have already decided what profitable businesses to put in those areas to add more wealth into the Tilden barony. Since Helios and I can’t visit the place all the time, we have hired trustworthy members of the barony to take care of it for us. We agreed to have 40% off the profits to be sent back as budget for the barony while we only keep the remaining 60%. It was like a fee for managing the business which is just fair.
I also added some of my personal money into the territory and used the reason that it was for my husband’s dowry. Helios backed me up and said that it was his filial piety money and that the Tilden family can take it as just borrowing it for now. They are free to pay it off gradually with no interest for the baroness had no choice but to accept it with no qualms.
