Chapter 388 Ye Wan's Silent Support
Chapter 388 Ye Wan's Silent Support
Night had completely enveloped the camp, and the atmosphere was heavy and still. Ye Wan sat alone, gently combing a wooden comb in her hand. Her gaze wasn't focused on her hair, but rather on the distant darkness, a complex mix of emotions swirling within her. The flickering light of the campfire illuminated her face, like a wave of unease. She knew that today's events couldn't simply be let go.
The arrival of Xie Linchuan's family emissary brought a reality she couldn't avoid: Xie Linchuan's identity. She knew this wasn't just a personal test for Xie Linchuan, but also a test of their relationship. She felt a deep sense of reluctance, a subtle pain like an invisible scar, piercing deep within her. However, she didn't show it, choosing instead to accept it calmly and support Xie Linchuan's decision.
She knew that Xie Linchuan's family background wasn't simply a matter of choice for him. It was where he grew up, a foundation he couldn't part with. For him, returning to his family wasn't necessarily a choice, but rather a call of responsibility, a lifelong burden. She couldn't ask him to give it up, especially when his family needed him. And she shouldn't treat this responsibility as a shackle that bound him.
Ye Wan gently closed the comb, stood up, and walked to the campfire. She knew Xie Linchuan was in deep confusion and entanglement, and all she could do was leave him the broadest path, allowing him to make a decision without worries. Whether he chose to return home or choose to fight alongside her, she would respect him and do her best to support him.
The next morning, the first rays of sunlight filtered through the trees, and dewdrops shimmered on the grass. The atmosphere in the camp remained silent. Xie Linchuan stayed in the tent all night, only emerging at first light. He saw Ye Wan sitting by the campfire, silently sorting her gear. Her gaze wasn't as forward-thinking as usual; instead, it seemed calm, even composed, as if she were waiting for something.
Xie Linchuan walked up to her and paused gently. His eyes were deep and complex, with a heaviness he had never felt before. "Wan, I've made up my mind."
Ye Wan raised her head and looked at him deeply. Her eyes showed no emotion, but rather a deep understanding. She nodded, her tone calm as water. "Whatever decision you make, I will support you."
Xie Linchuan was stunned for a moment, seemingly unprepared for Ye Wan's calm and resoluteness. Her words contained no hint of entreaty, much less of compromise, as if she had already mentally prepared for this outcome. Her attitude warmed his heart, yet also stirred a pang of guilt.
"Wan..." He spoke softly, his voice low, "Aren't you angry? Don't you think I'm running away?"
Ye Wan shook her head slightly, her eyes firm. "You're not running away. I know it's difficult for you to make this choice, and I also know how important your family is to you." She paused and continued, "But you also have to understand that I can't ask you to sacrifice for me. I don't want you to give up your responsibilities and your family. You have your own path to walk, and I will always be by your side, supporting you in making the most appropriate choice."
Xie Linchuan was shocked when he heard her words. He knew that although Ye Wan appeared calm on the surface, she must be suffering unspeakable pain inside. She chose not to interfere with his decision, choosing to silently fulfill his wish. This deep love deeply moved him.
"Wan, why...why are you doing this?" He couldn't help but ask, his voice low and full of doubt. "I know how you feel. Don't you want me to stay and fight with you?"
Ye Wan sighed softly, her gaze gazing into the distance, as if searching for something unattainable. "I hope you can have your own future, and not give up everything for me. It's not that I don't care, but I hope you can choose the life that's best for you."
Xie Linchuan's heart throbbed as he finally understood Ye Wan's deep meaning. She didn't support his decision because she didn't love him, but because she loved him. She put aside her selfishness and prioritized his happiness and freedom. Her consideration and understanding, like a warm force, penetrated the deepest part of his heart.
"You really are..." Xie Linchuan's voice choked, his eyes flickering with complex emotions. He stepped forward and gently held Ye Wan's hand. "No matter what decision I make, your support is priceless to me. Thank you, Wan."
Ye Wan didn't say anything, but just gently squeezed his hand, her eyes revealing a silent comfort. She knew that Xie Linchuan's heart must be full of entanglement and pain at the moment, and all she could do was to be his strongest support, even if it was just to accompany him silently.
"You don't need to thank me," Ye Wan said softly, her eyes gentle, "I just hope you make the choice that's best for you."
Xie Linchuan nodded, and the burden in his heart seemed to be lifted a little. He knew that no matter what choice he made, Ye Wan would understand and support him, and this kind of support was what he had always longed for.
In the days that followed, Xie Linchuan continued to ponder the call of his family. He knew that this decision would change his life. However, Ye Wan's silent support strengthened his belief that no matter what the future held, he would face it with his true self.
That night, the camp returned to peace. Ye Wan sat quietly by the fire, her eyes hazy. She knew she had made the most difficult decision, but she also knew that this decision was not the end, but another new beginning.
She didn't expect anything in return from Xie Linchuan, she just hoped that he could live a happy life, and go further and more firmly on this road full of unknowns. Her heart was no longer trapped in her own emotions, but on Xie Linchuan's future.
