Chapter 386 The Pressure of Reality Reappears
Warm sunlight shone across the camp, and the autumn breeze carried a hint of coolness, as if reminding everyone that no matter how beautiful the good times were, they couldn't last forever. Ye Wan and Xie Linchuan's relationship was as warm and bright as the autumn sunshine, but she knew clearly that the shadow of reality was quietly looming. Those brief moments of peace were beginning to be replaced by sudden pressure.
"Wan, there's movement outside." Xie Linchuan's voice broke the silence of the camp. His eyes swept across the distant sky with a solemn expression.
Ye Wan frowned slightly, stood up, walked over to him, and looked into the distance. She could feel the tension in the air. Yes, no matter how they tried to break free, the pressure from the court was always there, impossible to escape. And Xie Linchuan's identity was always a hidden danger lurking in the shadows.
"The imperial court won't let this go," Ye Wan said softly, "They're waiting for the right moment to deliver a fatal blow to us."
Xie Linchuan pursed his lips and remained silent. He knew Ye Wan was right. Although on the surface they maintained a delicate balance with the imperial court, in reality, this balance could be shattered at any moment. Whether it was his own identity or the existence of his team, it was always a sword hanging over his head, ready to fall at any moment.
"I've tried my best to do better," Xie Linchuan whispered, "but I know this situation isn't sustainable. We can't live in this state of unease forever."
Ye Wan's heart sank slightly. She understood what Xie Linchuan meant. This situation would sooner or later force them to make a choice. She held Xie Linchuan's hand tightly and took a deep breath. "But all we can do is try to prolong this situation until we are able to fight back."
Their eyes met, their inner understanding barely needing words. They both knew that behind this calm lay an infinite crisis. This crisis came not only from the outside world, but also from the growing emotions between them.
Ye Wan gently let go of Xie Linchuan's hand and turned to walk to the other side of the camp. Her steps were heavy, but each one was firm and unwavering. She knew that as the leader of the team, she couldn't be swayed by emotions. She had to make the most sensible decisions, no matter how difficult they were.
Yet, the turmoil in her heart never subsided. Ye Wan knew that her relationship with Xie Linchuan was facing an unprecedented test. She began to wonder whether this relationship could take root and flourish in this uncertain situation, or whether it would eventually be crushed by the pressure of reality.
As night fell, the starry sky gradually revealed its mysterious face. Beside the campfire, Xie Linchuan once again picked up the guqin and gently plucked the strings. Ye Wan leaned against the tree trunk, watching him silently, an inexplicable emotion surging in her heart.
She had originally thought that as their relationship grew, they could face the challenges of the future hand in hand. But now, she realized how wrong she was. Their relationship, which should have been their driving force, now seemed to have become their biggest burden.
"Linchuan," Ye Wan suddenly spoke, breaking the silence of the night. Her voice trembled slightly. "Can we really continue like this? Aren't you afraid that the entire team will be implicated because of me?"
Xie Linchuan's fingers suddenly stopped on the strings. He slowly raised his head, his eyes flashing with a complex light: "Wan, you know, I have never regretted anything. Whether it's my feelings for you or everything we are doing now. I know that if it weren't for you, I might never have been as determined as I am today."
Ye Wan's heart tightened, but her eyes grew more resolute. She walked towards Xie Linchuan and slowly sat down beside him. "I never regret meeting you, nor do I regret getting to this point. But you're right, we can't live in this state of uncertainty forever. Sooner or later, the pressure from the court will suffocate us."
She sighed softly, her gaze passing Xie Linchuan and gazing at the distant night sky. "I know I can't let my emotions affect our mission. You said we should think about the future of the team, not lose everything for our own emotions. But every time I see you, I think of the world I once wanted to escape from, the feeling of powerlessness bound by my identity."
Xie Linchuan listened quietly, his eyes unwavering. He knew that Ye Wan had deeper worries in her heart, and that every word she said was a reflection of her deepest struggles and contradictions.
"Wan," Xie Linchuan said softly, "You never rely on others easily, but I can sense that your current struggle is precisely because you've shouldered this responsibility on your own. I understand your concerns, but let me tell you, being with you, I've never felt like a burden. Our relationship isn't a power trade, nor is it simply about feelings. It's our shared choice, our determination to face the future together."
He paused, holding her hand, his eyes firm. "What you're worried about is exactly what I want to solve with you. We will find our own path. No matter how the court threatens us, we should not be swayed by it. Our feelings are our shared strength, not a constraint."
Ye Wan looked at him, tears glistening in her eyes, but she held them in. She knew Xie Linchuan was right. She couldn't let her anxiety drag them down, nor could she give up everything she had now because of fear of future challenges.
"I understand, Linchuan," she said softly, her voice filled with immense determination. "I won't hesitate any longer, nor will I let my emotions get in the way. I will make the best decision for the future of the team and our shared dream."
Xie Linchuan hugged her gently and whispered, "Let's face the future together."
At this moment, by the campfire, the flames illuminated their figures and their unwavering faith. In this chaotic world, they chose each other, believing in each other and facing every challenge. No matter what the future holds, they will stand shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart, toward a more uncertain but hopeful tomorrow.
