Crossing the famine to find the white moonlight

Chapter 262: The First Experience of Being a Mother

Chapter 262: The First Experience of Being a Mother

Ye Wan never imagined she'd one day take on the role of a mother, especially in this desolate world. She'd always focused on team building and survival, trying to maintain her composure and calm. However, with Xiaotong's arrival, Ye Wan's life quietly changed. She found herself becoming a child's dependent, a feeling of responsibility and care she'd never experienced before that caught her off guard.

Initially, Xiaotong's dependence on Ye Wan was limited to simple needs like eating, sleeping, and even cleaning. While Ye Wan prepared food, Xiaotong would sit obediently by her side, her eyes following every move, as if watching a guardian who would never betray her. However, over time, this dependence deepened, becoming even more clingy.

"Ye Wan, give me a hug." This was the first time Xiao Tong took the initiative to pull at the corner of her clothes, her eyes revealing an indescribable desire. At that moment, Ye Wan was stunned. This was Xiao Tong's request, not an order, not a task, but a pure emotional need, like she was longing for a child to be cared for, not a lost little life.

"Okay." Ye Wan agreed somewhat helplessly. She gently bent down and stroked Xiaotong's hair. Xiaotong nestled in her arms, gently closing her eyes, enjoying the warmth of the moment. Ye Wan felt her heart beat faster unconsciously, as if something was quietly collapsing deep inside her.

She understood that this was more than just taking care of a child; it was a responsibility and a deep emotional connection.

In the days that followed, Ye Wan began to grow accustomed to spending time with Xiaotong. In the mornings, she would take Xiaotong with her to fetch water and make breakfast. She discovered that the little girl had a strong curiosity about everything new, especially the simple tools in the kitchen. Every time Ye Wan picked up a spatula, her face lit up with excitement and anticipation, as if every movement was imbued with mystery.

"Ye Wan, what is that?" Xiao Tong pointed to a piece of bread on the table.

"That's bread. Eating it can make you stronger." Ye Wan explained softly.

"I want to do it myself!" Xiaotong's eyes lit up.

Ye Wan looked at her with a smile, "Then let's do it together."

So, she began teaching Xiaotong how to cook simple meals. Although she didn't have her mother's talent or patience, Ye Wan still tried her best to imitate the heartwarming scenes she had witnessed. She told herself that even a little bit of care and concern could make this little life feel a different world.

In the afternoons, Ye Wan would take Xiao Tong with her to inspect the farmland and livestock sheds. Xiao Tong was also filled with curiosity about the land. Every time she entered the fields, she would squat down and carefully observe each growing green leaf. From time to time, she would point to a seedling and excitedly say, "Ye Wan, look, this one is growing so fast!"

Seeing Xiaotong so happy, Ye Wan felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction. She realized that her life had become much more fulfilled because of this child. Although this wasn't a traditional family, and although she had no experience raising children, it all seemed to happen naturally.

"Ye Wan, can you sleep with me tonight?" At night, the cool breeze blew slowly, and Xiaotong's voice came from the other side of the bed, with a hint of soft request.

Ye Wan stopped reading and looked up at her with a gentle smile in her eyes. "Okay, let's sleep together."

As she spoke, she walked over to Xiaotong's bed, gently adjusted her bed to make it more comfortable, and then lay down. Xiaotong leaned against her chest, as if she had finally found a shoulder to lean on. She closed her eyes and let out a soft breath, as if she had found a long-lost sense of security.

In this strange land, Ye Wan had never had such an experience before - as a strong leader, she was used to commanding and making decisions, but as a "mother" player, she had to let go of all her defenses and learn to understand and care for a fragile life.

That night, Ye Wan tossed and turned, her mind consumed with thoughts of the future. She began to realize that her life wasn't simply about survival and fighting. In this uncertain world, perhaps what she truly needed was love, tolerance, and the responsibility to care for everyone in need.

The next morning, as sunlight streamed through the cracks in the tent onto the ground, Ye Wan opened her eyes and found Xiao Tong still sound asleep. She gently stood up, tiptoed outside the camp, and took a deep breath of fresh air.

She knew that today was another new day, and also another day for her as a "mother".

This sense of responsibility gradually softened her heart and strengthened her resolve to provide a warm and safe home for the child. She was determined not only to build a future for herself, but also to create a future full of love and hope for Xiaotong.

In her heart, she has slowly come to regard this little life as a part of herself, and she will be with him every step of the way in the future.
