Chapter 28 Family Members
Chapter 28 Family Members
Probably not expecting me to be so direct, Xie Wenyao shook her head helplessly and said to me sincerely, "Are you still angry about what happened back in school?"
"I'm sorry, I was young and naive at the time. I thought you were like those people and that you had ill intentions in approaching Yafei."
“You know, children born into families like ours, especially only daughters, are targeted by all sorts of people from a young age. Kidnapping and extortion are commonplace. So I’m instinctively wary of any man who gets close to us.”
He is absolutely right.
One is the daughter of a billionaire, and the other is an orphan without parents. These two people, who would never have crossed paths in their lives, became lovers, and the woman was determined to stay with him.
If it were me, I probably would have been even more extreme than Xie Wenyao.
Even though I accepted her explanation, I still couldn't fully trust her character.
After all, I could clearly sense that her malice towards me at the time was not just out of a desire to protect her friend.
Moreover, I don't believe Xie Wenyao was unaware that I chose to abandon Song Yafei when she was at her lowest point.
If she truly cared for her best friend, she would have preferred to help Song Yafei get revenge on me, to see me regret my actions and beg for forgiveness, rather than suddenly showing me so much concern.
There must be a demon in the abnormal situation.
I smiled knowingly and asked, "And now?"
"To be honest, when I heard about you dumping Song Yafei while I was abroad, I thought you really were a scumbag who wanted to take advantage of someone else's family."
I was somewhat surprised that Xie Wenyao spoke frankly about her true thoughts.
"However, if you were really one of those 'phoenix men' who live off the wealth of the Song family, you would have been a glamorous and wealthy man who controlled most of the Song family's assets long ago, instead of struggling to survive in the cracks like you are now."
At this point, she glanced hesitantly at my frail, paper-thin frame and frowned, asking, "Zhang Tian, what exactly happened between you and Yafei?"
"Based on my understanding of her, she is not the type of person who would easily get bored with someone new and keep a mistress to an online celebrity."
I pursed my dry lips and didn't answer her question.
I don't know why she suddenly became like this, so unfamiliar and cruel to me.
Realizing my predicament, Xie Wenyao didn't press the matter further and instead changed the subject.
"Actually, the main reason I came here today is to talk to you about joining the studio."
“My dad thinks highly of you. It’s been a regret of his for the past few years that you couldn’t come to school for further studies five years ago.”
"If you are willing to join the studio, I can assure you that I will never use my position to exploit or bully you in any way."
As she spoke, Xie Wenyao took out a labor contract and handed it to me. "This is a labor contract I drafted in the name of the studio. It clearly states the salary and the term of the labor contract. To express my sincerity, I also specifically stated that the boss shall not dismiss you for any improper reason."
"Furthermore, regarding all your work during your employment, no one has the right to interfere with your designs or offer suggestions for modification without a valid reason."
"How about that? Isn't that sincere enough?"
She smiled openly, the sunlight softening her features and making her look less aggressive than she had during her school days.
I read through the contract, and it was indeed as she said; she gave me a lot of special treatment.
"Zhang Tian, your work is of extremely high artistic quality. It is the most inspired and profound work I have ever seen among designers."
"We really need you to join us."
I haven't heard anyone give such high praise and recognition to my abilities and work in a long time, especially since this person is Xie Wenyao, who used to look down on me the most.
At that moment, I was flattered and overwhelmed. The confidence that Song Yafei had suppressed returned once again.
"Do you really think my work is very good?"
Xie Wenyao nodded without hesitation.
"Of course, you were the best in our class when you were in school. I've met a lot of my old classmates and seniors recently, but none of their works are even half as amazing as the painting you gave my father yesterday."
I picked up the contract and looked at it carefully again. Under Xie Wenyao's hopeful gaze, I asked, "Did you bring a pen?"
"I brought it!"
She instantly smiled, took a pen out of her bag, and handed it to me.
As I signed my name, her joy and excitement were palpable.
At that moment, I temporarily set aside my defenses and chose to accept the olive branch she extended.
"Pleasant to work with."
"Pleasant to work with."
Xie Wenyao smiled broadly and shook my hand without any hesitation.
We exchanged a smile, a smile that seemed to erase all enmity.
She carefully put the contract away and noticed the thermos on the table by the door, then remembered that she had brought me food.
"Oh, by the way, have you eaten? When I came, I asked the housekeeper to make ginseng chicken noodle soup."
Xie Wenyao got up and went to get the thermos.
The moment the lid was opened, a delicious aroma of food wafted into the room.
Having stayed up all night without eating a single grain of rice, I should be starving.
But the smell made my stomach churn, and I suddenly and violently gagged.
"Zhang Tian, what's wrong?"
Xie Wenyao rushed out in a panic and found a nurse.
In an instant, countless people in white coats flooded into the ward, and everyone examined me with solemn expressions.
"Quick, get the oxygen machine! The patient is going into shock!"
The doctor shouted anxiously, someone squeezed my chest hard, and everyone was racing against death in a frantic frenzy.
"Mr. Zhang, you've overcome so many difficulties already, you'll definitely pull through this one too!"
"Mr. Zhang, don't give up!"
My vision was blurry. I listened to the doctor performing emergency treatment while trying to regain my consciousness, and I kept telling myself the same thing.
Zhang Tian, you can't die yet!
I don't know how much time passed, but my mind finally cleared up a bit, and my breathing became easier. Everyone present breathed a sigh of relief.
"The patient is out of danger, and the family members can go in."
