Chapter 11 Black Market
Chapter 11 Black Market
......
After leaving the warehouse, Lin Yu did not return to the police station. Instead, he changed into civilian clothes and went directly to the black market in the west of the city.
The black market was huge, like an underground labyrinth.
Above them were exposed water pipes and electrical wires, with strings of dim light bulbs hanging from them.
Both sides were lined with stalls, some with simple sheds, and some simply with a cloth spread on the ground.
They sell all kinds of things.
Guns and ammunition from the old era, mutated biological specimens from the post-apocalyptic world, and all sorts of strangely shaped metal parts.
There were also organs in glass jars, preserved in formalin, some of which were clearly not human.
The air smelled of cheap tobacco and some kind of pungent chemical agent.
Lin Yu, smelling the mingled stench and fragrance in the air, pressed down on his round-brimmed felt hat, bent slightly, and lowered his head as he passed through the noisy area.
After walking about two hundred meters, Lin Yu stopped.
There was a very special stall in front of us. The stall owner was a petite girl with pigtails.
She was wearing an oversized old coat with the sleeves rolled up several times to reveal her slender arms, and a pair of oversized old cloth shoes.
The hood covered most of his face, leaving only the tip of his chin visible.
She sat on a small stool, with a tattered cloth spread out in front of her, on which dozens of items were laid out.
A rusty pocket watch, a chipped porcelain bowl, a few ancient coins, and several oddly shaped small sculptures.
He looks like someone who sells secondhand goods.
Lin Yu walked over and squatted down, pretending to look at the old goods.
What he was actually focused on was a piece of metal in the corner of the tattered cloth. Although it was covered in dirt, Lin Yu was certain that it was the anchoring fragment.
Lin Yu reached out to take it, but the girl suddenly grabbed his hand.
His fingers were icy cold, but he was surprisingly strong.
"This is not for sale."
Lin Yu looked up and saw that the girl's eyes were bright under her hood, staring straight at him.
Why?
"This is something I bought when I went to get more goods," the girl said.
"I don't know what use it is, but it looks special, and I'd like to keep it for research."
Name your price.
"Not for sale." The girl released her grip.
"I'll keep it for future research."
"Why are you putting it up if you're not going to sell it?" Lin Yu raised an eyebrow.
The girl crossed her arms and leaned back, a sly smile on her face:
"Uncle, look, since you want it, doesn't that prove its value?"
Lin Yu's lips twitched; this girl was truly quirky and clever.
And what does "middle-aged man" mean?
Lin Yu didn't think he looked that old.
"Why aren't you saying anything, uncle? Are you sad because you can't get what you want?" The girl's smile widened.
Lin Yu glanced at the girl; she was petite and delicate, and although she looked a bit disheveled, she was still quite cute.
He was just too thin; his cheeks were almost fleshy, and his gray hair was tied up haphazardly with an old strip of cloth, making him look malnourished.
Before the cataclysm, this type of creature was called "Lolita L," but nowadays few people would like it, especially in areas awaiting development.
This kind of thinness means trouble, difficulty in raising, inability to do heavy work, susceptibility to illness, and the need to share the already scarce food rations.
It's easy to accidentally kill yourself.
Of course, Lin Yu still retained his previous life's views and felt that this was nothing.
"How dare you talk to me like that?" Lin Yu reached out and grabbed the girl's wrist. "Aren't you afraid I'll kidnap you?"
Lin Yu lowered his voice, his tone carrying a hint of intimidation:
"This world is a dog-eat-dog world; no one will care if I kidnap you."
The girl paused for a moment, then suddenly smiled. There was no fear in her smile; instead, there was a sense of composure.
"Uncle, if you can afford to take me in, you can take me with you," she said earnestly, as if she were selling a product.
"I don't eat much; I can survive on two meals of thin porridge a day."
"Besides, I'm very clean, I'm still a virgin, you can inspect me."
The girl paused, then added:
"If you take me away, all these things I've accumulated are yours. They're not worth much money, but... they're still things."
Lin Yu didn't speak, but suddenly felt a little bitter.
Seeing Lin Yu's silence, the girl assumed he was dissatisfied, and a hint of panic flashed in her eyes.
She bit her lip, her voice becoming even softer:
"Five hundred ghost coins... five hundred is fine. Think it over. If you don't like it, then forget it."
The girl lowered her head, her fingers twisting the hem of her clothes.
Lin Yu released her wrist and said, "500 Ghost Coins for that fragment."
Hearing this, the girl bit her lower lip lightly, and finally nodded, saying:
"good..."
Lin Yu counted out five hundred ghost coins from his money bag and placed them on the stall. Then he picked up the fragment and turned to leave.
......
Not long after Lin Yu left—
"Hey Anna, business's good today, huh?" A sleazy voice came from the side.
Three men in floral shirts strolled over, the one in the lead being a scarred man with a straw in his mouth.
He walked up to the stall and kicked over a bamboo basket containing small trinkets.
wow-
Things were scattered all over the ground.
Anna shrank back in fright and didn't dare to say a word.
"You should pay your protection money this month, right? You've been dragging your feet for three days. Do you think I'm easy to talk to?"
"I...I have no money..." Anna's voice trembled.
"You took all the money we made yesterday..."
"No money?" Scarface sneered, raising his hand to slap him!
Snapped!
The sound was crisp and clear.
Anna was beaten to the ground, blood seeping from the corner of her mouth, but she didn't cry out; she just wiped it with the back of her hand.
People at the surrounding stalls all lowered their heads, pretending not to see.
These kinds of things happen every day in places like the black market; we can't control them, and we're too lazy to bother.
"Quickly, tell me, do you have any money?" Scarface reached out and grabbed Anna's hair.
However, just as her hand reached halfway out, her wrist was grabbed by another hand.
Scarface was taken aback and turned his head.
Lin Yu stood next to him, his face expressionless.
"Who are you?" Scarface tried to break free, but found that the other person's hand was as immovable as an iron clamp.
"Police station investigation." Lin Yu flashed his second-class detective badge, his tone flat.
"You assaulted and extorted me in the street. Come with me."
Scarface's expression changed, but he quickly straightened his neck again:
"Officer, it's a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! I was just joking with this girl..."
"Are you kidding me?" Lin Yu glanced at the clear five-finger mark on Anna's face:
"Okay, then I'll joke around with you too."
He flipped his wrist.
Click—!
The sound of bones dislocating rang out.
Scarface screamed in agony as his entire arm twisted at an unnatural angle.
Two accomplices nearby rushed over, cursing as they saw this.
Lin Yu dodged the incoming fist by turning to the side, and at the same time raised his knee and slammed it into the opponent's abdomen.
The man groaned, clutched his stomach, and knelt down.
The second person pulled out a dagger and stabbed Lin Yu in the side.
Lin Yu raised his hand, grabbed the other person's wrist, and twisted it in the opposite direction.
The dagger slipped from his hand and fell to the ground.
"Assaulting a police officer is an even more serious offense."
Lin Yu was too lazy to waste any more words and took out the Shadow Strike Blade from his waist.
He then grabbed the three criminals and stabbed them in the chest repeatedly.
Blood splattered, and the sound of knives piercing flesh filled the air.
Lin Yu's expression remained calm.
Once the three men had completely died, Lin Yu sheathed his dagger, and the blood on it was quickly absorbed.
Lin Yu felt that his qi and blood had increased slightly, though only slightly.
