Chapter 35 Selling Monster Corpses
Chapter 35 Selling Monster Corpses
Gunshots echoed in the open space. I quickly rushed out of my hiding place and revealed myself to the singer.
Keen Eyes, Swift Movement
Both skills were activated at the same time, and I could clearly see the surprise and fear flashing in their eyes as they tried to understand the suddenly appearing enemy.
However, my speed has been greatly enhanced.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
I opened fire rapidly, gunshots ringing out in succession, felling one chanter after another with deadly precision. I aimed for their vital organs, ensuring a swift and clean kill.
After all, my [Keen Eyes] allows me to easily see through the monster's weaknesses and vulnerabilities, while my instantaneous speed increase allows me to adjust my aim more quickly.
The rate of fire of this semi-automatic pistol is perfectly capable of keeping up with my pace.
'Thump! Thump! Thump!'
One monster after another fell to the ground, their vital organs pierced.
This is the power of firearms; their rate of fire is unmatched.
Especially in this situation.
The chanters' eerie melody ceased, and they collapsed one by one, lifeless. They had let their guard down, basking in the joy of victory, and now they paid the price.
With enhanced perception and speed, I moved at an incredible pace, making it almost impossible for the remaining chanters to pinpoint my location.
I moved through the shadows, taking advantage of the environment. Although I had rested, the sun was just beginning to rise, and the dense foliage of the forest completely blocked out the sunlight, preventing any light from illuminating the area.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Gunfire continued, each shot hitting its target precisely. The monsters tried to retaliate, but their attacks were all in vain; I remained outside their attack range.
But that doesn't mean I'm invincible.
"Huh...huh..."
My stamina is rapidly depleting, and my magic reserves are about to run out.
After all, I'm not only using skills, but also using magic to enhance the bullets, which makes my magic drain even faster.
"I can only hold out for five more seconds at most. But that's enough to kill all the remaining monsters."
Having reached this conclusion, I pointed my gun at the monster flying above me.
'whoosh'
There's one on the right.
Turning my head to the right, I aimed at the monkey-like monster flying towards me and fired.
"boom!"
There's another one on the left.
He quickly turned to the left and fired again, a bullet shattering the head of another monster.
"boom!"
"The last one is at the back."
Guided by my senses, I turned and fired at the last monster.
"Click!"
"Ok?"
However, the expected gunshot did not ring out. There was no loud gunshot, no impact from recoil, only a slight mechanical click.
My brain instantly went on alert.
'whoosh'
"Roar!"
A chanter used its sonic magic to quickly approach me.
I immediately dodged to the side, barely avoiding the monster's direct attack. However, even with my protective senses, the monster's sonic waves still affected me.
"Ugh!" I winced in pain, my ears stinging as if pricked by needles. In that brief moment of distraction, the monster lunged at me again.
I promptly dropped the now-useless gun, realizing it was utterly useless in such close combat.
I quickly drew my dagger, gripped the hilt tightly, and prepared to fight.
"Roar!"
'whoosh'
The bard lunged at my chest with its claws. I dodged to the side, but its sharp claws still grazed my shoulder, leaving a bloody gash.
"Ugh!" I gritted my teeth, pain shooting through my entire body. The wound wasn't deep, but it stung intensely. I knew I had to end this fight as soon as possible.
My movements began to slow down because my magic reserves were almost depleted.
"Two seconds."
The timer ticked in my mind. Ignoring the pain in my shoulder, I poured the last bit of magic into the dagger.
The dagger was once again enveloped in a deep red light, and I could feel a bloodthirsty aura enveloping me.
'whoosh'
I saw the monster's claws aimed straight at my chest. At that moment, my ears were ringing, and I felt like I was in peak condition compared to the past.
But at that moment, I calmed down.
"One second." That's the time before my remaining magic power runs out.
"clang"
I kept my eyes fixed on the monster's movements and used my dagger to parry its claws.
'prick!'
Then, I gripped the dagger with my other hand, spun around, and used the momentum to plunge the dagger into the monster's chest.
"Roar!"
The monster let out a piercing scream, and I could feel its life rapidly slipping away. However, my ears remained deafened by the sound waves.
I abandoned the dagger that was plunged into the monster's chest and immediately adjusted my posture.
'cut!'
With a swift, decisive swing, my other dagger slit open the monster's throat.
'Pfft! '
Blood gushed out, staining the ground red.
As the last chanter fell, the eerie sound finally vanished completely. I took a deep breath, letting my heartbeat gradually calm down.
"Huh...huh..."
Adrenaline was still coursing through my veins, and the pounding of my heart was echoing in my ears.
The once peaceful clearing is now covered with the corpses of monsters. My fighting was incredibly efficient, leaving these monsters no chance of survival.
As I looked around, I noticed the fallen bodies of hunters not far away. Their faces still bore the marks of pain and despair, a stark reminder of the harsh reality of this world. They had fought bravely, but ultimately could not withstand the chanters' onslaught.
Even if I had chosen to show myself and help them, I was certain they would have abandoned me at the crucial moment, just like that coward, and escaped on their own.
This is a common phenomenon in dungeons, let alone in a dungeon controlled by the black market.
"It's time to leave."
I glanced at the time and realized it was almost 6 a.m. Now was the best time to leave this area.
Even if you don't encounter any monsters on the way back, it will still take at least two hours.
I swallowed a stamina potion to relieve my fatigue, and then began collecting the monster corpses.
"Ten chanters...that's quite a number."
After packing up my gun and loading a new magazine, I began to leave the area.
And so, I left the dungeon.
'Swish'
The moment I returned to the outside world, that familiar feeling of nausea returned, but this time I had gotten used to it a little better.
The first step is to check the monsters stored in my spatial bracelet.
To avoid seeming suspicious, I prepared an extra space bracelet specifically for displaying my spoils.
At the gate, I encountered the man with the cigar again. He was waiting, smoking, and when he saw me, he gave me a mocking smile.
"Hey kid, how's it going?" His tone was still annoying, but I had just gone through a fierce battle, so I couldn't be bothered with him.
"Tsk! Let me scan it." With that, he took out a device and brought it close to me to examine the spatial bracelet.
"drop!"
Give me the bracelet.
He muttered impatiently and gestured for me to hand him the bracelet. After taking the bracelet, he began to examine its contents.
"Oh? Not bad... better than I expected. Fifteen kobolds... that's quite a lot."
As he said, I deliberately only put 15 kobolds in the bracelet, without any of the minions' corpses. This was to avoid arousing suspicion that I was involved in the deaths of other groups.
"Everything's confirmed to be okay, you can go now."
As he spoke, he tapped his watch a few times, seemingly muttering something to himself, but I couldn't hear what he was saying.
"This is truly a cheating device."
As I expected, he did not detect the items stored in my other spatial bracelet.
"and many more."
Shortly after, a masked man walked over.
“Marcus.” The scruffy man greeted him, but Marcus completely ignored him, just as indifferent as I was.
"Tsk! You two are such a perfect match, you should go on a date!"
We ignored his sarcasm and left the place shortly afterward.
After passing through the second door, I arrived at the [Wild Man] shop, which is where hunters sell monster materials.
"Do you need my help?"
The procedure was the same as last time, and I started the transaction.
"After deducting your share, your remaining profit is Valer."
Just as I calculated, the transaction amount was confirmed.
My schedule is far from over after leaving [the Savage]. After all, I still need to find a monster broker to sell the rest of the monster corpses.
I walked through the bustling crowds of the black market.
Shortly after, I saw a sign that read "[Beast Trading Company]" pointing to a narrow alley.
"Got you."
This is a place frequented by players, specifically for selling well-preserved monster corpses.
I pushed open the creaking door and entered a dimly lit room filled with all sorts of people. The place had a mysterious atmosphere, and I could sense that illicit transactions frequently took place here.
As I approached the counter, I met the gaze of a man who looked like a broker. He had a sharp look in his eyes and a serious demeanor.
"He looks very sharp, and judging from his stance, he's a spearman. His average attribute should be between 6 and 7."
As I assessed him, he was also sizing me up.
“Little hunter, is there anything I can help you with?” he asked in a deep voice.
“I want to sell some monster corpses,” I replied calmly, completely unmoved by his imposing manner.
"Let me see your goods."
I carefully placed the monster corpses on the counter. The broker examined them one by one, assessing their value with a professional eye. I could see a flash of amazement in his eyes.
"You've had a good haul this time," he said softly, his tone tinged with admiration.
As he inspected them, he named and described the level of each monster. "A group of kobolds, chanters, and even a kobold leader... very good."
“All of these together are worth about 30,000 walers,” he said, giving his quote.
I carefully observed the agent's reaction. His initial offer was 30,000 valor, which was already a decent amount. However, I was well aware of the true value of these spoils, and I wasn't prepared to compromise easily.
“I appreciate your offer, but I believe these monsters are worth more than that,” I replied calmly, meeting his sharp gaze.
The agent raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued by my confidence. "Oh? Why do you think so?"
“These monsters are in excellent condition, and they are all of high level. I put a lot of effort into preserving them to ensure that their quality is maintained at its best,” I explained.
The agent leaned back slightly, pondering my words. "That makes sense, little hunter. But the market for these monsters is already quite saturated. I can only give you a maximum of 40,000 Valers."
I knew he was haggling, but I wouldn't give in easily. Because I knew he desperately needed these well-preserved monster corpses to satisfy his demanding supplier.
“These monsters are still rare and valuable. In the right hands, they will fetch even higher prices. I can accept 50,000 walers, but not lower.”
Hearing my words, the broker's eyes sharpened even more. "You're right, little hunter. However, I really can't give you any more."
Hearing this, I knew he had played his last card, but I would never give in easily.
"Really? Then I'll go find another monster broker."
After saying that, I started to collect the body and prepare to leave this place.
"Wait a moment."
Just then, the man called out to me.
After a tense silence, the agent finally nodded. "Alright, 50,000 valor it is."
I nodded upon hearing his reply, just as I had expected.
And so, I sold all the monster corpses I had, left the black market, and returned to the academy...
