Chapter 35 Struggle and Awakening
Chapter 35 Struggle and Awakening
The next day, Wang Peng arrived at Shen Fang's office as promised. Shen Fang appeared unusually serious today. She sat behind her desk, her gaze cold, as if everything was under her control. An unspoken sense of oppression filled the air.
"Wang Peng, come and sit down." Shen Fang's voice was devoid of any emotion, lacking any gentleness, like a cold metal blade piercing directly into Wang Peng's heart.
Wang Peng didn't dare to be negligent and quickly stepped forward to sit opposite her. He felt the air was somewhat stagnant, and his heart was pounding. Shen Fang's aura was simply too powerful, and his feelings at this moment were extremely complicated. Ever since he decided to see Lin Chuyue, he had felt somewhat uneasy, and today Shen Fang's atmosphere made him feel even more oppressed.
Shen Fang stared at him coldly, as if she could see right through his thoughts. "Wang Peng, I heard you met with Lin Chuyue yesterday?" The threat in her voice was almost audible.
Wang Peng's heart skipped a beat, and he nodded gently: "Yes, President Shen. President Lin discussed some issues concerning the company's future development with me, but nothing else was mentioned."
Shen Fang narrowed her eyes slightly, as if deep in thought. "What do you think Lin Chuyue can offer you? Is it really a wise decision for you to so easily trust her?"
Wang Peng looked up, trying to calm his voice: "President Lin only offered some cooperation suggestions and didn't make any promises to me. I just think she has her own insights into the company's development, which are worth discussing."
"Discuss?" Shen Fang suddenly laughed, a laugh that was chillingly cold. "Do you think Lin Chuyue would be so kind as to help you? Wang Peng, you're just a pawn in her hands now. Her goal is nothing more than to use you. Don't forget, I'm the one who brought you from that small place to this position and gave you everything you have now. And now you've betrayed me. I'm truly disappointed."
Shen Fang's tone grew increasingly sharp, and every word she uttered forced Wang Peng to think deeply about what he was doing, plunging him into a profound inner struggle.
Wang Peng felt as if a stone was pressing on his heart, making it difficult to breathe. Shen Fang's words seemed to be uncovering his deepest, most hidden fears. She was right; he had indeed received Shen Fang's help, even achieving his current status, but... what price was hidden behind this help?
He said in a low voice, "President Shen, I have never forgotten your guidance and support, but the things you have asked me to do have begun to become unbearable for me."
Shen Fang raised an eyebrow, her eyes sharp: "Who do you think gave you your current position? What do you think is the basis for your status? Everything I've given you, you have to work for me, do you understand?!"
Wang Peng gritted his teeth and said in a low voice, "I understand, but there are some things I can no longer continue doing."
Shen Fang's eyes sharpened. She stood up, walked to Wang Peng, almost touching his body, and whispered, "Are you planning to betray me?"
Her tone was unusually cold, like an ice blade piercing Wang Peng's heart.
“Rebel against you?” Wang Peng looked up, his eyes filled with a complex expression. “I never intended to betray you, but now, what you’ve made me do has made it impossible for me to continue.”
Shen Fang's face suddenly darkened further. She gritted her teeth and said, "Wang Peng, do you know what you're saying? How dare you say such things to me? You'll be completely abandoned by me! You're a traitor no one will trust anymore. You actually want to betray me?!"
Wang Peng felt an unprecedented sense of oppression. He stood up, took a step back, and his decision grew stronger: "President Shen, I can no longer continue doing what you asked me to do. You forced me to participate in money laundering, and I no longer want to do it. You are no longer the Shen Fang I once trusted."
Shen Fang stared at him, her gaze sharp as a knife: "You're not willing to do it anymore? Wang Peng, you dare to threaten me now?"
Her voice was so cold it was almost suffocating. Wang Peng felt his breath caught in her gaze, yet he remained calm. Though his heart pounded, he said firmly, "President Shen, your actions have crossed my line. What you forced me to do not only hurts me, but also the entire company and many other people. I can no longer do this for you."
A flash of anger and disdain crossed Shen Fang's eyes. She suddenly laughed: "Fine, you're not doing it anymore? Then tell me, what are you going to do?"
“I’ve made up my mind.” Wang Peng’s tone was low and resolute. “I will tell Lin Chuyue everything you’ve done. I will expose your hidden schemes so that she won’t fall into your trap again.”
Shen Fang's expression changed drastically. She slammed her hand on the table, her gaze sharp as a sword: "You dare! Wang Peng, do you know what you're doing? You're digging your own grave!"
Wang Peng did not back down. He took a deep breath and said firmly, "I know what I'm doing. President Shen, I've always thought you were very important to me, but now I realize I was wrong. You've changed. You're no longer the Shen Fang I knew."
He turned and left Shen Fang's office without hesitation. Every step seemed to lead to a new life, full of unknowns, but he had made up his mind.
Back in his office, Wang Peng's mood remained heavy. He picked up the phone and dialed Lin Chuyue's number. When the call connected, Lin Chuyue's voice was cool and calm: "Wang Peng, what's wrong?"
Wang Peng took a deep breath, his voice somewhat subdued: "President Lin, there are some things I must tell you, concerning Shen Fang. Her situation is more complicated than I thought."
"Tell me more about it." Lin Chuyue's voice was unhurried, revealing a deep calmness.
“Shen Fang has been manipulating the company’s cash flow and transferring funds through improper means, which involves money laundering. I was forced to get involved by her, but I can’t continue like this.” Wang Peng’s tone was full of self-blame and determination. “I will provide all the information I know to help you expose her true colors.”
After listening, Lin Chuyue remained silent for a moment, a cold glint flashing in her eyes: "You know what this means, right?"
Wang Peng's voice was firm: "I know. I'm ready."
“Okay.” Lin Chuyue’s tone was calm, but it carried an undeniable deterrent force. “I will use the information you provide, but you also know that this path will not be easy.”
Wang Peng nodded: "I understand."
