Chapter 151 Trading Your Life
Chapter 151 Trading Your Life
In the ward, Lin Ran was fast asleep. In her dazed state, she saw a figure by the bedside and spoke before she could even make out who it was.
"Jingchen, are you off work?"
Jingchen turned his head, and Lin Ran could see his face clearly.
This isn't Xiao Jingchen at all; it's clearly Xiao Yunsi.
The joy in Lin Ran's eyes vanished instantly.
"It turns out to be you."
"What? Do you look disappointed?"
"No, no, how could that be possible?"
After all, they were her friends, so Lin Ran quickly shook her head and smiled ingratiatingly.
Fortunately, Xiao Yunsi didn't intend to dwell on these matters and poured Lin Ran a glass of warm water, handing it to her.
"Drink some water."
"Thank you."
Lin Ran was indeed very thirsty, so she took the glass of water and gulped it down.
"By the way, Yun Si, is the company very busy right now?"
Lin Ran asked casually, appearing indifferent on the surface, but her ears were practically glued to the screen.
A dark glint flashed in Xiao Yunsi's eyes. He smiled but did not answer Lin Ran's question.
"Instead of worrying about the company, you should take a break."
"Lin Ran, I am truly heartbroken for you."
Xiao Yunsi sighed as he spoke, leaving Lin Ran stunned and unable to recover for a long time.
"What do you mean?"
Xiao Yunsi seemed somewhat indignant on her behalf, his brows furrowed.
"you do not know?"
"That's true, how could my good brother possibly tell you about this?"
Seeing that Lin Ran's curiosity had been piqued, Xiao Yunsi smiled with satisfaction and pulled up a chair to sit on the edge of the bed.
"Jiang Rao pushed you off the cliff. If you hadn't been lucky enough to wake up, you would be a corpse now."
“Intentional assault should result in jail time, but… Jiang Rao has already gone abroad, so this matter will be dropped.”
Lin Ran clenched her fists under the covers, as if she had guessed something, and her voice trembled slightly.
"So... he didn't do anything?"
"He took the opportunity to buy the shares held by Jiang Jun."
"Lin Ran, he traded your life for those shares."
Xiao Yunsi deliberately slowed down his tone, speaking each word clearly so that Lin Ran could hear him perfectly.
As he wished, Lin Ran could no longer maintain her composure. She stared blankly at what was in front of her, only stopping when her palms were pinched until they bled under the blanket.
"Xiao Yunsi".
Lin Ran's voice was very soft, as if it would vanish into thin air at any moment.
Xiao Yunsi suppressed his joy and slowly raised his head.
Once Lin Ran and Xiao Jingchen have a complete falling out, what good will it do for him to have Jiang Jun's shares? He'll still just be a shareholder.
"Don't say things like that so casually in the future."
Lin Ran looked up, a slight smile on her pale face, her tone firm.
"I trust Xiao Jingchen. He wouldn't do such a thing. Besides... I'm perfectly fine, aren't I?"
Xiao Yunsi frowned, stared at Lin Ran for a long time as if she were an idiot, and then suddenly sneered.
"Think what you want."
"You should get some rest. I won't bother you anymore."
Xiao Yunsi turned and left.
The moment the ward door closed, Lin Ran could no longer hold back her tears and buried her face in the blanket, sobbing uncontrollably.
How could it be as Xiao Yunsi said? Xiao Jingchen clearly jumped down to save her, so how could those things be fake?
Lin Ran cried herself to sleep.
It was already past midnight when Xiao Jingchen came over after get off work. He reached out and gently wiped away the tears on Lin Ran's face, his eyes filled with tenderness.
"You came?"
Lin Ran shrank back, dodging Xiao Jingchen's hand, and buried her head in the quilt before asking in a muffled voice.
"Ah."
Xiao Jingchen didn't pay attention to her movements, but simply pulled back the blanket, revealing her head completely.
"Xiao Jingchen, I have something I want to ask you."
Lin Ran thought of what Xiao Yunsi had said that afternoon, and her eyes welled up with tears again. She could only blink quickly to keep from falling.
"Jiang Rao, why did she leave? Where did she go?"
Lin Ran initially wanted to ask about the shares directly, but then felt that it wouldn't be appropriate. After hesitating for a while, she finally found a suitable question.
Why are you asking this?
Xiao Jingchen seemed to hesitate for a long time, his eyes filled with an unreadable expression.
"Grandpa will come to see you tomorrow. Do you want to go home?"
"If you don't like the hospital, we can go home."
Xiao Jingchen spoke gently; Lin Ran had rarely seen him like this.
But she doesn't feel happy at all; instead, she feels a dull ache in her heart.
She lay down wrapped in the blanket, her back to Xiao Jingchen.
"I'm so tired, I want to sleep."
A hint of doubt appeared on Xiao Jingchen's cold face. He stared at Lin Ran's back for a long time, then gave a soft reply and turned to leave.
After closing the ward door, Xiao Jingchen did not leave, but instead turned around and went to the monitoring room.
Lin Ran made no attempt to hide her emotions; her obvious disgust made it impossible for him to ignore her.
Upon seeing Xiao Yunsi's figure in the image, Xiao Jingchen immediately understood everything.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, revealing a chilling coldness in them.
Some people cannot be kept.
Xiao Jingchen had a rough idea of what Xiao Yunsi was going to say, but he didn't intend to tell Lin Ran about Jiang Rao.
Those things are best kept to himself.
Such a timid woman, if she finds out, she'll probably hold a grudge for a long time.
After watching the video, Xiao Jingchen hesitated for a moment outside the ward. Looking through the window into the room, he saw Lin Ran lying motionless on the bed, seemingly asleep.
He hesitated for a moment, then turned and left.
Early the next morning, Grandpa Xiao arrived at the hospital with a carload of tonics. Seeing Lin Ran lying on the bed looking sickly, he felt so sorry for her that he almost cried. He walked over to her bedside in a few steps.
"Oh dear, my Ranran, why is she so unlucky?"
"How are you now? Does your injury still hurt?"
Lin Ran was still a little groggy from just waking up, but after being called a few times by that energetic voice, she was fully awake.
"Grandpa, why did you come so early?"
Just as Old Master Xiao was about to retort, he looked up and saw the clock in front of him, the hands pointing exactly to the seven.
It's only seven in the morning.
"Ahem, that's because I was worried you'd get impatient waiting by yourself, so I got up early on purpose."
The old man also cared about his reputation, but unfortunately, the butler beside him didn't understand what he meant and explained with a smile.
“Young Madam, the old master has been having trouble sleeping ever since he found out about your accident. However, the young master had been preventing him from coming over, but now that he knows you're awake, he's allowed the old master to come in.”
"The old man spent the whole night choosing tonics for you and barely slept."
Butler Xiao deliberately lowered his voice and told everything under the old man's murderous gaze.
