Chapter 229 Preparations
Chapter 229 Preparations
After soaking the coriander seeds overnight, take out a thin, breathable piece of animal hide, spread the seeds evenly, spray some water on them, and then wrap them with the animal hide to allow the seeds to germinate freely.
The orcs were very fast at planting seeds. It's no exaggeration to say that they were born laborers and could definitely be called "good sons of the farmer".
It's the kind of thing that even farmers would give a thumbs up to!
Two days later, Lin Baiyan opened the animal skin and found that the coriander seeds had sprouted. He then dug a ditch in the small plot of land he had cultivated.
The coriander seeds were sown in rows, and Lin Baiyan, wearing his little straw hat, diligently wielded his hoe.
The October weather still held a lingering heat. This morning, when he went out, Lang Cang insisted that he wear a straw hat, saying that he was afraid Lin Baiyan would get a rash from the sun.
Lin Baiyan had no choice but to work while wearing a straw hat.
After evenly scattering the seeds into the furrows, cover them with a layer of soil and tamp it down, then sprinkle water evenly on top.
Lin Baiyan's fingers were full of black mud. He looked up, adjusted his straw hat which was about to fall off, and looked at his work with satisfaction.
He had just straightened up when a voice came from behind him, "Bai Yan!"
Lin Baiyan turned around and saw Yang Ye standing in the dormitory area waving at him, "Come quickly!"
He approached, washed his hands first, and then Yang Ye handed him a glass of water.
After thanking him, Lin Baiyan took the water and drank a sip. "What's wrong?"
"The canteen has already finalized the menu and would like you to go and give your feedback. This is the first time our tribe has invited guests, and we're worried that we might do something wrong." Yang Ye said a little embarrassedly.
He hasn't gone out to gather food since he became pregnant, and he and Shuyue have stayed in the dormitory to process the food that the other sub-beastmen have gathered.
The two busy orcs suddenly felt relaxed and uneasy, so they wanted to find something to do.
This was perfect timing, as Lin Baiyan wanted to invite the brother tribes over for a meal, so the two of them simply joined the logistics team.
Five days seemed quite tight to them. Yang Ye was busy finalizing the menu with the cafeteria, as well as the venue for the event, and confirming all the necessary items such as pots, pans, tables, chairs, and benches.
The few sub-orcs were extremely busy.
It was Lin Baiyan and the others who suggested, "Why don't you just make it a buffet?"
"What is that?" Several sub-beastmen, including Yang Yehu, Qingquan Ling, and others, all turned their eyes to Lin Baiyan.
Lin Baiyan smiled and said, "Everyone is responsible for one thing. If anyone wants to eat, they can go to their stall and get it themselves. That way, there's no need to serve food. As long as you make sure your stall has enough food, everyone can take whatever they want."
Hearing his explanation, Yang Ye's eyes lit up. "That's a great idea! We don't have to worry about how much to order for a dish."
"Take as much as you want. Does our tribe have that much food?" The dog spirit was a little worried. With the current food shortage and the beastmen having been hungry for a long time, seeing so much food all at once would surely make them all eat a lot.
Lin Baiyan nodded confidently, "I wouldn't have dared to say before, but now there's definitely enough to eat."
The other orcs don't usually go into the warehouse, so they don't know, but Lin Baiyan knows perfectly well that they have brought a lot of food back to the tribe. Even if they don't go out hunting, the current storage is enough for them to eat for a year!
"You can rest assured and finalize the menu. Just ask Uncle Rabbit Forest and Cat Feather for the amount of food you need."
From then on, the logistics team members felt relieved, and Quanling rolled up his sleeves, determined to get things done!
They worked with several members of the logistics team to prepare a lot of dishes, and now the menu is finally finalized.
Yang Ye hurriedly came to find Lin Baiyan.
Lin Baiyan downed all the water in the cup in one gulp. "Come on, I'll go see what you've accomplished!"
When the two orcs arrived, the dog spirit was wielding a spatula, ladling out the last dish.
It has to be said that the dog spirit is indeed very talented. Basically, she can replicate any dish that Lin Baiyan has made after seeing it only once. Not only that, she can also apply what she has learned to other dishes, adding a lot of variety to the recipes of the Cangyan tribe.
"The priest is here! All the dishes are ready, come and have a taste." The dog spirit put down the spatula, untied the tattered animal skin apron, and waved to him with a smile.
The dog spirit was very grateful to Lin Baiyan. She was of average appearance, barely deserving of the title of pretty. She was originally an ordinary sub-beastman, and even a bit unreliable, often causing minor troubles when gathering resources.
But everything seemed to change after Lin Baiyan transferred her to the canteen. She seemed to have entered her own domain, and she could handle cooking techniques and proportions that other orcs found hard to understand with ease.
With his culinary skills, he took charge of the logistics team and became its captain, transforming himself from an ordinary orc into someone highly respected by his people.
The dog spirit knew that it was all because of Lin Baiyan.
He believed in himself and taught him many ways to cook. Every day in the logistics team, Quanling was extremely satisfied.
It's no exaggeration to say that Lin Baiyan's status in the hearts of the dog spirits has now surpassed that of the Beast God; he is the dog spirits' highest faith.
Upon hearing that Lin Baiyan was going to host a banquet for other tribes, Quanling put in 200% effort to ensure that the bonfire party was a success for Lin Baiyan.
Upon seeing his idol, Quanling's eyes lit up and his cheeks flushed, whether from the smoky smell of the pot or from excitement, it was hard to tell.
Lin Baiyan greeted her with a smile, "I heard you're all ready?"
Quan Ling nodded vigorously and pointed to the table next to his idol. Lin Baiyan looked in the direction he was pointing and saw a dense array of plates crammed together, covering three tables.
Lin Baiyan's eyes widened involuntarily. "So many?"
He glanced at the dishes and estimated there were at least thirty.
Wolf-tooth potatoes, crispy yellow croaker, stewed potatoes with meat, kelp and egg soup, pan-fried lamb chops, fried potato cakes, roasted sweet potatoes, fried radish balls, boiled fish fillets, minced meat and egg custard, stewed chicken with mushrooms, spicy stir-fried rabbit, braised bamboo shoots with meat, spicy shredded potatoes, oyster sauce leafy greens…
They even have dessert!
They were probably made of sweet potato puree and taro, each one pressed into a very pretty shape, and decorated with two small bright green leaves on the side, making them look extremely delicate.
Seeing so many dishes, Lin Baiyan subconsciously swallowed. He thought to himself in a daze, "If Quan Ling had this talent, he would be a natural chef if he came to China!"
The dog spirit said somewhat shyly, "We wanted you to try it. If you don't like any of the flavors, we'll take it off."
After she finished speaking, she handed Lin Baiyan a pair of chopsticks and looked at him expectantly.
After taking the chopsticks, Lin Baiyan invited them to join in the meal.
Seeing the hesitation on the faces of the several sub-beastmen, he first pulled Dog Spirit and Tiger Green over, "What's wrong? Do you think I'd eat people?"
Hu Qing laughed heartily, "How could that be? Ling is just shy!"
In front of Lin Baiyan, Quan Ling always acted like a little fangirl.
