Chapter 229 Dark Despair and a Glimmer of Hope
Darkness, like a surging wave, completely engulfed the cave. The intense dark power, seemingly carrying endless resentment and bitterness, relentlessly squeezed Huanmo and the others. The soft light that had once filled the cave flickered and threatened to be extinguished like a candle in the wind under the erosion of darkness.
Huanmo felt an immense pressure surging from all directions, every inch of his skin feeling as if it were being pricked by sharp needles. He channeled his spiritual energy to the fullest, forming a defensive barrier in front of him, but this barrier trembled under the impact of the dark power, threatening to shatter at any moment. "Everyone, stay calm! Don't panic!" Huanmo shouted, trying to keep his companions calm, but a trace of anxiety inevitably welled up within him as well.
Ling'er clung tightly to Huanmo's side, her face pale with fear, but she bit her lip, trying hard not to make a sound of fear. "Brother Huanmo, I'm not afraid..." Her voice was soft, but it was firm. Huanmo felt a pang of heartache and gently patted her shoulder with one hand. "Don't be afraid, brother's here."
Despite his injuries, the mysterious man stood shoulder to shoulder with Wanru and the woman in white. They each unleashed their spiritual power to fight against the dark forces. The mysterious man's spiritual power was already severely depleted from the previous battle, and he was now even more exhausted, but he still gritted his teeth and persevered. "This shadowy figure is indeed cunning. It sensed our intention to destroy it and fought with all its might to stop us," the mysterious man said, his brow furrowed, his voice tinged with weariness.
The weapon in Wanru's hand gleamed as she swung it vigorously, trying to dispel the surrounding darkness. "No matter what, we can't give up. We must complete the ritual." Her eyes were resolute; despite knowing the difficulties ahead, her belief never wavered.
The woman in white gently stroked the guqin, attempting to use the power of music to combat the darkness. However, the dark forces seemed to interfere with her playing, turning the originally melodious music into a chaotic mess. Beads of sweat covered her forehead, and a flicker of anxiety crossed her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure and continued her efforts to adjust the music.
In this dark and desperate situation, Huanmo resisted the dark forces while pondering a countermeasure. He knew that if they continued to passively defend themselves, they would eventually be swallowed by the darkness. Suddenly, he remembered that an ancient text seemed to mention that deep within the darkness of this cave, there was a trace of power originating from the same source as the sealing runes. Perhaps they could use this power to turn the tide.
"Listen up, everyone," Huanmo said loudly. "Ancient texts say that at the core of the dark forces lies a special power that we might be able to use to fight back. But someone needs to risk venturing into the darkness to find that power."
Upon hearing this, everyone's hearts tightened. Venturing into the darkness was undoubtedly a choice with a near-certain death, but at this point, there was no better option. "I'll go," Huanmo said without hesitation. He knew that as the backbone of the group, he had to shoulder this responsibility.
"No, Brother Huanmo, it's too dangerous." Upon hearing this, Ling'er hurriedly grabbed Huanmo's hand, her eyes filled with worry. "Let me go, Huanmo," the mysterious man said. "You understand the ritual better and need to stay here to oversee things. I'll go find that power."
Looking into the mysterious man's resolute eyes, Huanmo felt a surge of emotion. "Alright, mysterious man, you must be careful. We will do our best to hold off the dark forces here and buy you time."
The mysterious figure nodded slightly, then took a deep breath, channeled his spiritual power, and charged deeper into the darkness. Huanmo and the others increased their spiritual power output, attempting to stabilize the dark power's offensive and create an opportunity for the mysterious figure.
As the mysterious man ventured deeper, the darkness grew increasingly intense, and the immense pressure nearly crushed his body. His spiritual energy was constantly being depleted in the darkness, making each step forward incredibly difficult. But the mysterious man held only one belief in his heart: to find that power and save everyone.
Huanmo and the others fought desperately against the dark forces from the rear, their spiritual energy gradually dwindling. The weapon in Wanru's hand shone weaker and weaker, and the white-clad woman's zither music became intermittent. Ling'er clutched the scroll tightly, trying to draw power from it, but the scroll could only emit a faint light at this point.
"Hang in there, everyone, the mysterious man can do it!" Huanmo kept encouraging everyone, while also cheering himself on. However, as time went by, his worries grew heavier. The mysterious man had been inside for some time, but there was still no news; he didn't know if he had found that power.
Just when Huanmo and the others were almost in despair, the dark power suddenly fluctuated. A faint light shone from the depths of darkness, like a star in the darkness; though small, it brought a glimmer of hope to everyone.
"It's the mysterious man! He succeeded!" Huanmo exclaimed with joy. Everyone else also saw the light, and hope was rekindled in their eyes.
However, before they could rejoice for long, the dark forces seemed to sense the danger and began to surge frantically towards the light, attempting to devour it. The light flickered erratically under the onslaught of darkness, threatening to be extinguished at any moment.
Will the mysterious figure be able to retain that power, break through the darkness, and return to the group? Will Huanmo and the others be able to use this power to successfully resist the shadowy attacks and complete the ritual? Everything remains uncertain, and the situation inside the cave has become even more tense, as if the final outcome could arrive at any moment…
