Chapter 146 Entangled Vines and the Vortex Crisis

Chapter 146 Entangled Vines and the Vortex Crisis

The vines, writhing wildly like serpents, continuously emerged from the mist, sweeping densely towards the group. Each lash carried a sharp whistling sound, like the angry tentacles unleashed by the mysterious valley, determined to trap the intruders. The surrounding mist grew thicker, like white walls, completely obscuring their vision. They could only vaguely make out the approaching shadowy vines, which intensified their growing anxiety and unease.

Huanmo swung her sword, severing the vines that lashed at her, while inwardly groaning. "This is only the first hurdle, and it's already this difficult. Who knows how many more hardships await us? We can't be trapped here! We must fight our way out!" Her arms were already aching, but she dared not slacken her swordplay. The spiritual energy on the blade flickered with each swing, and every collision with the vines sent sparks of spiritual energy flying. However, there were simply too many vines; as soon as one was cut, another would quickly take its place, leaving her somewhat exhausted.

Sweat beaded on Wanru's forehead, streaming down his face and soaking his clothes. He played the jade flute with all his might, unleashing blades of spiritual energy that shot from the holes at the vines. But as the blades severed the vines only to be quickly overwhelmed by newly sprouted ones, a sense of helplessness welled up inside him. "This is never going to end! At this rate, we'll be completely entangled by these vines. We need to think of something else." He gritted his teeth, his eyes scanning the surroundings anxiously, hoping to find the source or weak point of the vines to break through this predicament.

Ling'er hid behind the crowd, her face pale with fright. She clutched the book tightly, her little hands frantically flipping through the pages, trying to find the spell to subdue the vines as quickly as possible. She kept muttering, "Hurry, hurry, let me find it! I can't watch everyone get trapped by these evil things!" Her big eyes were filled with tears, but she held them back. She was both scared and anxious, knowing that everyone was counting on her to find a way out in the book.

The woman in white frowned, her fingers flying across the zither. The music transformed into waves of spiritual energy, rushing towards the densest part of the vines, attempting to disperse their onslaught. But the vines seemed to possess inexhaustible vitality; each wave dispersed, they quickly coalesced and continued their assault. The woman in white felt a growing unease, thinking to herself, "This can't go on. Our spiritual energy is being depleted rapidly. If we can't get rid of these vines soon, the later challenges will be even more difficult to overcome."

Just as everyone was struggling to stay afloat with the vines, the whirlpool in the stream below the net bridge grew stronger and stronger. The once gently flowing stream now roared like a raging beast, and the powerful suction from the whirlpool caused the net bridge to shake violently. Everyone lost their footing and was almost pulled into the water by the suction.

Huanmo was startled and quickly inserted her sword into the gap of the net bridge to steady herself. She shouted, "Everyone, grab onto something! Don't get sucked in!" She turned to look at the constantly spinning vortex and felt a chill run down her spine. The vortex was dark and deep, as if it were the entrance to an endless abyss. Once you were sucked in, the consequences would be unimaginable.

In her panic, Wanru grabbed a thick vine beside her, but the vine seemed alive, twisting violently and tightening its grip on her hand, causing her to wince in pain. "Oh no, what am I going to do? This vine is wrapped around me, I can't shake it off!" she cried anxiously, pulling and tugging hard, trying to break free of the vine's hold.

Ling'er burst into tears, feeling her body slowly sliding towards the whirlpool, almost dropping the book in her hands. "I don't want to fall! I'm so scared! Grandpa, please save me!" she cried, struggling desperately backward, but the suction was too strong, and her strength seemed so insignificant.

Seeing this, the woman in white gritted her teeth and pressed her fingers hard on the strings of her zither, unleashing an extremely powerful wave of spiritual energy. The wave shot towards the vines beneath everyone's feet, instantly shattering many of the vines that were wrapped around them. Only then were they able to regain their footing and temporarily escape the danger of being dragged into the vortex by the vines.

Huanmo, panting heavily, glanced gratefully at the woman in white and said, "Miss, thank you so much. If we had been any later, we would all be finished."

The woman in white nodded slightly and said, "Don't thank me yet. This has only temporarily stabilized the situation. We still need to find a way to completely get rid of these vines before we can cross this net bridge."

Everyone nodded in agreement, but couldn't think of a good solution for the moment. Just then, Ling'er suddenly stopped crying. As if she had remembered something, her eyes lit up, and she quickly turned to a page in the book, excitedly saying, "I found it! I found a spell that can subdue plant-based evil spirits. Maybe it can deal with these vines!"

Upon hearing this, a glimmer of hope ignited in everyone's hearts, and Huanmo quickly said, "Ling'er, give it a try!"

Ling'er closed her eyes and quickly chanted an incantation. A golden light emanated from the scroll, slowly coalescing into a giant rune that flew towards the vines. Upon contact with the rune, a miraculous scene unfolded. The wildly flailing vines seemed greatly shaken, their movements abruptly halting. They then began to slowly retreat, shrinking back into the mist. Soon after, the surrounding mist dissipated, revealing the original shape of the net bridge.

Everyone was both surprised and delighted to see this. Wanru exclaimed excitedly, "Ling'er, you're amazing! Now we can continue on our way!"

Ling'er wiped away her tears, a happy smile spreading across her face, and said, "Great, I've finally been able to help everyone."

Huanmo looked at the net bridge ahead, which had returned to calm, and breathed a sigh of relief. He said, "Let's go, let's get across this net bridge quickly. Who knows what awaits us beyond."

The group cautiously continued along the net bridge and successfully reached the other side. But the sight before them stunned them once more. Ahead lay a wide expanse of meadow, dotted with vibrant flowers of every color, a beautiful sight indeed. Yet, nestled among the blossoms, they could vaguely discern some white bones, exuding an eerie atmosphere. At the far end of the flowerbed stood a dilapidated stone house, its door tightly shut, as if concealing some unspeakable secret.

Huanmo frowned, a sense of foreboding rising in his heart. He said, "This place doesn't look simple either. Those bones must have been left by the intruders before. We have to be careful."

Wanru swallowed hard and said, "Yes, this flowerbed looks beautiful, but it might also be a dangerous trap. How are we going to get across?"

The woman in white looked at the stone house with a solemn expression and said, "That stone house may be the key, but it won't be easy to get through this flower bush. Everyone be careful and don't be careless."

Ling'er hugged the book tightly and whispered, "I feel so scared here. What if those flowers suddenly turn into monsters and bite us?"

With hearts pounding with unease, the group slowly made their way towards the flowerbed. The moment they stepped inside, the quietly blooming flowers suddenly trembled violently, petals fluttering down in a flurry. What danger lurked beneath those falling petals? Would they be able to successfully traverse the flowerbed and reach the mysterious stone house? Everything was once again shrouded in an atmosphere of unknown tension…
