Chapter 85 Mysterious Spiritual Power and a Chance of Survival
The intense spiritual energy emanating from the depths of the cave, like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, instantly shattered the tense and stalemate. Although the stone beasts moved somewhat slowly, they remained menacing, their scarlet eyes gleaming with ferocity, their low roars echoing through the cave, as if they were wary of that mysterious power, yet unwilling to let the group go so easily.
Huanmo was panting heavily, his sword trembling slightly from the fierce battle. He looked warily at the stone beasts, thinking to himself, "I don't know if this sudden fluctuation of spiritual energy is a blessing or a curse, but in any case, I have to find a way to get rid of these troublesome guys first."
The woman in black robes leaned close to Huanmo, her forehead beaded with sweat that slid down her cheeks. She whispered, "This situation is too bizarre. We need to seize the opportunity to escape, otherwise it will be even more difficult once the stone beast recovers." The man in white nodded slightly, his jade flute clutched tightly in his hand, ready to unleash his spiritual power to defend against the stone beast's attack at any moment. However, his gaze kept drifting towards the direction from which the spiritual energy fluctuations were coming, trying to see through the darkness and find out what was causing the disturbance.
Ling'er waved her ribbons, the soft light appearing somewhat weak in the dim and dangerous cave. She said anxiously, "Why don't we follow the direction of that spiritual energy fluctuation? Maybe we can find a way to deal with these stone beasts, and it might even be the opportunity to leave this place."
Although everyone hesitated, knowing that the unknown often meant greater danger, they had no better choice at the moment. Huanmo gritted her teeth and made up her mind, saying, "Alright, let's go that way. Be careful and look out for each other." With that, she took the lead and slowly moved towards the direction from which the spiritual energy fluctuations came, with the others following closely behind, keeping a close eye on the stone beast's movements.
As they drew closer, the surrounding environment grew increasingly mysterious and unpredictable. Strange spots of light began to flicker on the cave walls, seemingly alive, sometimes converging, sometimes dispersing, faintly outlining ancient and obscure patterns, as if telling a long-ago story. The ground beneath their feet became uneven, with protruding rocks that could easily cause them to trip, while the fluctuations of spiritual energy grew stronger, carrying an aura that inspired both awe and curiosity.
As they walked, a huge circular stone platform appeared ahead, emitting a soft light. Within the light stood an old man dressed in a white robe. The old man had a peaceful face and deep, wise eyes, as if he understood everything in the world. Yet, he also exuded an elusive and mysterious power, which was the source of the spiritual energy fluctuations.
Upon seeing the old man, the stone beasts seemed to have encountered something extremely terrifying, retreating in all directions with low growls before disappearing back into the passage they had come from. Everyone present was stunned, filled with doubt, yet secretly relieved to have temporarily escaped the threat of the stone beasts.
Huanmo stepped forward, clasped his hands in a respectful bow, and asked, "We are sorry for disturbing you, senior. We thank you for your help. May we ask who you are and why you are here?" The old man raised his hand slightly, indicating that Huanmo did not need to be so polite. Then he spoke slowly, his voice like a great bell, echoing in the cave: "I have guarded this forbidden area for a thousand years, waiting for a destined person to unlock the secret of the seven-colored box that concerns all living beings. You are the destined person who has come here."
Upon hearing this, everyone looked at each other, feeling both surprised and apprehensive. Huanmo quickly took out the scroll he had just obtained and said, "Senior, we found this item by chance, but the text and patterns on it are obscure and difficult to understand. We hope that you can give us some guidance and help us unlock the secret of the box so as to prevent that great calamity from befalling the world."
The old man looked at the scroll, nodded gently, and a hint of satisfaction appeared in his eyes. He said, "This is an ancient secret scroll that contains the key to opening the box. However, deciphering it is not easy. One must go through many trials before one can understand its profound meaning." As he spoke, the old man waved his sleeve, and the light around the stone platform suddenly became stronger. Everyone felt a blur before their eyes and found themselves in a strange space.
In this space, surrounded by a vast expanse of white mist, various strange sounds could be faintly heard, like whispers or roars of beasts, sending chills down one's spine. A sense of unease welled up in Huanmo's heart. He shouted, "Everyone, be careful! Stay close to me, don't get separated!" But as soon as he finished speaking, the mist seemed to come alive, surging rapidly and instantly separating the group.
Huanmo was extremely anxious, blindly searching for his companions in the mist, constantly muttering to himself, "What should we do? We just escaped the danger of the stone beast, and now we're in this bizarre situation. If something happens to them, how will we unlock the secret of the box?"
The woman in black robes was also groping her way through the mist, her long sword ready to face any danger. She called out her companions' names, but only the strange sounds echoing in the mist answered her, and fear began to creep into her heart.
The man in white played his jade flute, trying to dispel the mist with his music, but the mist remained unmoved and instead grew even thicker. Ling'er waved her colorful ribbons, but their once bright light was now mostly swallowed up by the mist. She anxiously circled around, unable to find a way out.
Just as everyone was sinking into despair amidst the fog, a blurry figure suddenly appeared before Huanmo's eyes. The figure slowly walked towards him, seemingly familiar yet indistinct. Huanmo's eyes widened, trying to see who it was, but the figure seemed shrouded in a veil, exuding an indescribable eeriness.
"Who are you?" Huanmo asked loudly, his voice trembling slightly. However, the figure did not respond, but continued to approach step by step. As the distance closed, Huanmo felt a powerful sense of oppression coming towards him, making it almost impossible for him to breathe.
