While on Mount Hua, my mind is at peace!

Chapter 15 Destroying Wangfu Temple

Chapter 15 Destroying Wangfu Temple

Yue Feng left the tavern, opened his oil-paper umbrella, and slowly walked along the official road towards Huangbo Mountain. After walking for a while, he suddenly saw a slender woman walking briskly in the rain in the distance. He caught up with her in a few strides, patted her on the shoulder, and asked, "Xuan'er, what are you doing here?"

Xuan'er turned around in surprise and saw Yue Feng. Her tired face immediately lit up with a radiant glow.

"It's Young Master Yue! I run a small shop in the countryside. Today I wanted to go to town to buy some things, but I unexpectedly encountered this heavy rain. Look, your clothes are all wet."

Yue Feng carefully examined the rain-soaked areas on Xuan'er's body, and a faint sense of nostalgia suddenly welled up in his heart. Since he and Xuan'er were going the same way anyway, they walked side by side, and he casually asked her how she had been doing lately.

"Thank you for your concern, Young Master Yue. After I redeemed myself, I still had some money left, so I was thinking of going to the countryside to start a legitimate business. I'm already very familiar with the ways of doing business, my only worry is that I have no one to help me."

"But Young Master Yue, isn't it a coincidence? I was just worried about having no one to help me when suddenly many homeless women appeared in the village. I heard they were rescued from Wangfu Temple by a great hero. Wangfu Temple is a place that even I, let alone respectable women, dare not go to burn incense and pray to Buddha."

"Some of those women were locals whose husbands had abandoned them; others were from out of town and dared not go back. They were all eager to find a way to make a living."

"I thought this was perfect, so I gathered them all together. I didn't skimp on their wages; I paid them exactly what they were owed. I also provided them with food and lodging. Just now, I went to town to buy them mattresses..."

Yue Feng listened silently, marveling at the strangeness of the world. He didn't tell Xuan'er about what he had done on Huangbo Mountain, but simply encouraged her, telling her to do well in business and not to forget her old flame when she became rich.

Xuan'er giggled and said, "Young Master Yue, not to brag, but I think I'm pretty good at making money. If you ever become penniless, just come find me, and I'll offer you the highest price..."

The two then came to a fork in the road; to the left was Yuxi Town, and to the right was Huangbo Mountain. They said their goodbyes, and Yue Feng left first. Xuan'er stood gracefully in the wind and rain until Yue Feng's figure was out of sight before hurriedly leaving.

Yue Feng braved the rain to climb the mountain and arrived at the gate of Wangfu Temple. He found the gate tightly shut and utterly silent inside, wondering what strange things were going on within. Yue Feng raised his foot and kicked down the two large gates with a loud bang. He drew his sword, still holding his oil-paper umbrella in his other hand, and strolled leisurely into the temple.

Hearing the commotion, the monks came out to investigate. Seeing Yue Feng's appearance, they knew he was there to cause trouble, and they surrounded him, each armed with a weapon.

Yue Feng kept moving, his single blade flashing repeatedly, sometimes displaying the sword techniques of the Ten Elders of the Demonic Sect, sometimes the sword techniques of the Long Sky Sword. He always took one step and one strike, one kill with each strike. After thirteen steps, thirteen corpses of monks from Wangfu Temple lay on either side of him.

Three angry shouts rang out, and three old monks surrounded Yue Feng from three directions. Before they even arrived, six palm strikes had already blocked Yue Feng from all sides. Yue Feng used his single sword to deflect three of the palm strikes, but the remaining three, which he couldn't deflect in time, landed squarely on his body.

The three old monks were overjoyed at the same time, as if they could already see Yue Feng's bones broken and flesh lying on the ground. Unexpectedly, Yue Feng only swayed slightly twice, the blade turned, and with a flash, he cut off one of the old monks' arms.

The old monk immediately retreated, sealed the wound on his shoulder with acupressure, and was about to attack again when Yue Feng seized the opportunity to stab another old monk in the heart.

Seeing his fierce courage, the third old monk lost all will to fight and turned to flee. Yue Feng, without touching the ground, gave chase and cut off his bald head with a single stroke.

In the blink of an eye, Yue Feng crippled one monk and killed two others, a feat witnessed by all the monks in the temple. These three monks were the most skilled martial artists in Wangfu Temple, and the one-armed old monk was none other than Abbot Guangxing. Seeing the situation was dire, the monks scattered and fled in terror.

Yue Feng unleashed his lightness skill, moving like a ghost, slaughtering most of the monks, leaving only a very few lucky ones to escape. Yue Feng stopped chasing and returned to Guang Xing.

"You bald thief, what's your name?"

"Old, old, old monk... Guangxing."

"Oh, so you're the abbot of Wangfu Temple? Very good, you're lucky you haven't been killed by me yet. I heard you have a scripture repository here?"

"Yes, what does the great hero desire?"

"Take me to see it."

Guangxing dared not disobey, ignoring the blood still flowing from the wound on his shoulder, and led Yue Feng to a three-story wooden building.

On the way, Yue Feng encountered several monks who seemed to be wandering aimlessly, and killed them all indiscriminately. Guang Xing witnessed this scene and suddenly felt a warm flow gushing from his crotch. Fortunately, the heavy rain continued, so Yue Feng did not notice.

Yue Feng ordered Guangxing to lead him to the third floor, where they saw a small iron door with a large padlock that appeared to be made of brass. Yue Feng asked Guangxing, "What's in here?"

Guangxing looked distressed and replied, "This contains the temple's secret manual for palm techniques, and... and..."

"Um?"

"And some of my personal small collections."

Yue Feng grinned: "Open it."

Guangxing suddenly knelt down, kowtowing repeatedly, saying, "Great hero, this humble monk is willing to give you all the treasures in this treasure room, only begging you to spare my life. I will be eternally grateful!"

Yue Feng pretended to hesitate, walked to Guang Xing's side, quietly raised his knife with both hands, and cut Guang Xing in two with one stroke.

"Even if I kill you, the things inside will still be mine."

Yue Feng searched Guang Xing's body but found no key except for a few pieces of silver. He tried to cut the lock with his knife, but the lock, made with some unknown technique, wouldn't break, and instead chipped several nicks into the blade.

Yue Feng took a breath, channeling the true energy of the Giant Spirit Golden Body into the blade, and swung the sword again, finally breaking the lock. A rare and precious sword was thus broken in the process. Yue Feng felt a pang of regret, threw down the broken sword, and pushed open the door to go inside.

The treasure room was arranged like a study. Directly opposite the door was a desk with an exquisitely carved wooden box and the Four Treasures of the Study on it. On the shelves on both sides were various antiques and jade artifacts, and a long sword hung on the wall next to one of the shelves.

Yue Feng had just lost his usual single-edged sword, so upon seeing this, he stepped forward and took the longsword. The scabbard of the longsword was spotless, clearly indicating that it was frequently and carefully wiped clean.

Yue Feng gripped the hilt and gently drew the sword, instantly feeling a chilling aura seep into his skin. Overjoyed, Yue Feng thought that this sword alone was worth the price of admission.

He hung his longsword at his waist, looked at the shelves on both sides, picked up the wooden box on the table, and opened it.
