Chapter 11 Awakening Supernatural Powers
Chapter 11 Awakening Supernatural Powers
The hound's nose twitched, having already sensed something alive hiding in the crevice between the rocks. It immediately rushed to the crevice and barked incessantly.
The three people by the pool immediately became alert.
Meng Shi rushed to the stone, and Meng Yuanshan and Meng Jinchuan quickly followed, their three gazes locking onto the crevice in the stone.
Zhang Nanfeng was so frightened by the barking that he shrank to the bottom of the crevice, secretly thinking that something was wrong.
Damn it! How did a dog suddenly appear?
Judging from the speed at which the hunting dog had rushed over, there was absolutely no way he could escape from its jaws.
Outside the crevice, Meng Shi already held a short knife, blocking the way out.
A direct confrontation will only lead to certain death; only by outsmarting the enemy can one escape.
Meng Yuanshan and Meng Jinchuan exchanged a glance, remaining silent and awaiting Meng Shi's decision.
Meng Shi stared at the crack in the rock for a moment, then spoke softly:
"There are living creatures inside."
Meng Jinchuan's eyes lit up:
"Uncle Stone, could it be a baby Purple Star Toad?"
"Absolutely impossible." Meng Shi shook his head. "The Purple Star Toad's eggs hatch into tadpoles; how could they possibly hide in a crevice in the rock?"
He hesitated for a moment, then turned to look at the two slaves behind him, his gaze settling on the shorter one, his tone cold:
"You, reach in and explore."
The slave knelt and kowtowed repeatedly:
"Master, spare me! There must be poisonous creatures in the crevice..."
"Poison?" Meng Shi asked indifferently. "Perfect, just take it out."
The slave dared not disobey, and could only slowly insert his right arm, trembling slightly.
His arms were short, and his fingertips only touched the cold stone wall. After groping around for a while without finding anything, he felt a little relieved and quickly withdrew his hand to report back:
"Master, it's completely empty!"
Meng Shi squinted, completely disbelieving.
"waste."
The poisonous palm struck out, hitting the slave squarely in the heart.
The slave fell straight to the ground, his body instantly turning bluish-black, and he died on the spot.
Meng Shi then looked at another slave and said coldly:
"Go ahead. This is what happens when you can't find anything alive."
The slave was already paralyzed with fear, crying and begging for mercy.
Meng Shi's eyes flashed with anger, and he kicked the man into the crevice.
Meng Yuanshan also stepped forward, pressed down on his back with one knee, and forcefully pushed his right arm into the crevice of the stone.
As the giant hand drew ever closer, Zhang Nanfeng, with nowhere left to retreat, looked at something beside him.
It was a poisonous fruit that he had picked from the forest and ate half of earlier.
He pushed the poisoned fruit onto the slave's fingertips.
Upon touching the hard object, the slave instinctively clenched his fist and pulled away, scrambling backward as if crawling on the ground.
"Master! We've caught it! It's...it's a fruit!"
Meng Yuanshan snatched it away and glanced at it, his brows slightly unfurrowing:
"It was originally a black pine fruit."
"Brother, something's not right." Meng Jinchuan leaned closer for a closer look, then shook his head. "This fruit only grows in damp, shady places on cliffs. This isn't a cliff, and besides..."
"This has been gnawed on," he said, pointing to the teeth marks on the fruit.
Approval flickered in Meng Shi's eyes. He looked at the tall slave again and said coldly:
"Probe again. Keep going until you find something alive."
The slave was terrified and turned pale. He dared not disobey, so he closed his eyes and reached his arm into the crevice again, his fingers outstretched as he scratched wildly.
Zhang Nanfeng had nowhere to hide. He had shrunk to his smallest size, but the crevice in the rock was so deep and so narrow.
Fingertips finally grasped his forelimbs.
Damn it, I can't keep up the act anymore!
Zhang Nanfeng opened his mouth and bit down hard on the slave's wrist, injecting two drops of golden poison.
The slave screamed and pulled his hand away; the gold spots spread where he had been bitten, and the flesh and skin went numb wherever he went.
A fierce glint flashed in his eyes as he picked up a sharp stone from the ground and hurled it down.
The sound of bones cracking rang out one after another. The severed arm fell to the ground, but the person barely managed to save their life, curled up on the ground and whimpering.
Taking advantage of everyone's distraction, Zhang Nanfeng leaped out from the crevice in the rock, his golden poison striking Meng Shi's face directly.
Meng Shi was prepared; he drew his short sword and blocked the poison. His left hand formed a claw, unleashing a burst of poisonous energy that precisely grabbed Zhang Nanfeng in mid-air.
He controlled his strength perfectly, and Zhang Nanfeng was immediately unable to move or spit out the poison.
I'm done for...
Zhang Nanfeng felt a bitter taste in his mouth.
He had planned to take advantage of the chaos to strike and then poison the hunting dogs to escape, and had even already devised a plan to shake off the three men. But he underestimated the man before him.
"What a wonderful seed of heaven and earth!"
Meng Shi lifted it up to his eyes, gazing at this strange creature that was neither rat nor toad, his eyes filled with astonishment and admiration.
"Uncle Stone, what kind of spirit seed is this?" Meng Jinchuan hurriedly came forward, his eyes full of surprise.
Meng Shi shook his head:
"I can't explain it."
Meng Yuanshan also stepped forward and said in a deep voice:
"Third Uncle, now that we have obtained such a poisonous substance, we should return to the stronghold as soon as possible to avoid any unforeseen events."
Meng Shi nodded and placed Zhang Nanfeng into the small bamboo basket at his waist.
Zhang Nanfeng began to gnaw frantically as soon as it entered the basket, trying to break free.
"Uncle Stone, on the ground..."
Meng Jinchuan pointed to the one-armed slave curled up on the ground and whispered.
Meng Shi seemed not to hear, and strode out of the forest without looking back, with Meng Yuanshan following closely behind. Meng Jinchuan hesitated for a moment, then quickly caught up.
"Third Uncle, this poison is extremely potent," Meng Yuanshan said respectfully. "If we extract its venom sac to make poison, it will be an incurable poison."
"Brother, you mustn't!" Meng Jinchuan urgently stopped him. "How can we do something so short-sighted, killing the goose that lays the golden eggs?"
"Killing the goose that lays the golden eggs?" Meng Yuanshan looked puzzled. "What do you mean?"
Meng Jinchuan chuckled and explained:
"This is a saying from Dongzhou, meaning that killing a hen for eggs is only concerned with immediate gains and not with long-term benefits."
Meng Yuanshan remained silent for a moment, his face flushed, but he ultimately refrained from lashing out because Meng Shi was present.
Meng Shi's face showed approval:
"Ogawa is right. Killing such a strange creature for its venom would be a terrible waste. Raising it and slowly extracting its poison is the best long-term solution."
Meng Jinchuan then said:
"Uncle Stone, something I just remembered."
"What is it?"
"Our ancestors were originally slaves who later escaped. It is said that they were able to build the Meng family's fortune with the help of a golden toad."
He paused, then said:
"Uncle Stone, could this one we caught today be the same kind our ancestor encountered?"
"Don't talk nonsense!"
Meng Yuanshan rebuked him sternly.
"That's just a legend! How could our ancestors have been slaves? They clearly built this family fortune through hard work and daring!"
Meng Shi ignored the debate over the veracity of the legend and simply said:
"We'll have to go back to the village and consult the records to find out exactly what this creature is."
Zhang Nanfeng continued gnawing at the bamboo basket, but the basket was as tough as iron, and no matter how hard he tried to tear it, he couldn't get out.
Listening to the footsteps of the three people outside and their incessant conversation about him, he knew that once he entered the Meng family village, escaping would be as difficult as climbing to heaven.
He stopped wasting his time and instead began breathing in and out miasma, pinning his hopes on the awakening of supernatural powers.
Hopefully it's not too late...
My footsteps outside the basket gradually became steady, and the miasma in the forest gradually thinned out.
Zhang Nanfeng was extremely anxious and dared not stop for a moment.
Suddenly, the inherited power within the poison glands blazed brightly, emitting a dazzling light.
He was pulled into the virtual realm.
But the situation was urgent, and he had no time to observe carefully. He quickly glanced at it and then left.
In that instant of separation, the related supernatural powers poured in like a galaxy flowing backward, completely imprinting themselves into his soul, as if they were an innate instinct—
In the blink of an eye, one's own venom can undergo various transformations.
He already knew he had made the right bet, and this supernatural power could help him escape!
In a moment of haste, he grasped the change of "bone dissolution".
