Chapter 1670 471: The Prince Who Cherishes Women
Chapter 1670 471: The Prince Who Cherishes Women
"The 'big one' has finally arrived."
That was the cleansing the followers in the Twilight Province had long been awaiting.
In fact, before the Judicial Court arrived here, there had been others on this land. But that cleansing targeted the followers of Saint Xi, while this one targets those who do not believe in Him.
Either way, it's all their own doing.
From the perspective of Saint Xi, looking down upon this land, Count Thelon Gard is actually the luckiest person.
When the Green Forest Army came to attack the city, he didn't flee; when the banners changed and he saw that victory was unattainable, he immediately ran; now that the Salvation Army has left, he has returned once more.
Even though he hasn't received guidance from the Demon King, in action he's as flexible as a worm, adhering to the principle of fighting when he can win and running when he can't.
Sometimes Rayden also thought that perhaps Saint Xi truly was dead, otherwise why would fate favor these rodents?
And yet, the ultimate price is paid by countless ordinary people.
He was almost certain that the actions of the Judicial Court would sow the seeds of disaster for twenty years hence, but how could the 'Holy City People', who might never set foot in the Ryan Kingdom in their lifetimes, care about a flood in a borderland twenty years later?
It would be nothing more than drowning a group of ants.
Standing on a hill far from Sparrow Wood Castle, Rayden, with the "Holy Grail Shield" on his back, looked expressionlessly at the army heading towards the castle.
Having once regarded the Lion Heart Knight Order as glory, he had never detested the flying lions so much; perhaps without a king, it would be a better ending for everyone.
At this moment, a man in leather armor walked up behind him, looking at the Holy Grail on the shield and grinning.
"What's wrong, Knight Master, reluctant to part with your own home?"
"That's not my home; my home is by the riverside near the mill close to the castle."
Rayden withdrew his gaze from afar and turned to look at the unremarkable middle-aged man, continuing in an expressionless manner.
"I just want to see the end."
He knew this man, whose name seemed to be Grega, one of the intelligence personnel under Carian's command.
Before this, this so-called intelligence department had always been obscure until they recently started to make a name for themselves.
It was said that inviting Thelon unnoticed outside Twilight City was their doing.
Including the dissemination of various whereabouts regarding the Salvation Army and "Holy Maiden Carian" in Twilight City, it was also their handiwork.
"As you please."
Grega shrugged, not intending to stop him or having the ability to dissuade a Platinum Level strongman.
Rayden hadn't asked for his opinion anyway; seeing that he had nothing else, he turned his head back, raised his monocular, and continued observing the direction of Sparrow Wood Castle.
Brennan wasn't the only one unwilling to withdraw.
Valuing honor, Rayden similarly didn't want to leave the land where the Kaishter family had lived for generations as a fugitive.
Even though he knew deep down that staying meant certain death, and he would die with a more disgraceful identity than a fugitive.
Selling one's soul to a Demon doesn't necessarily implicate other family members, but 'treason' is quite different.
It must be said that although the Holy City Court's bottom line wasn't high, it was still far above the Green Forest Army's ceiling.
They also killed without blinking and weren't stingy with methods of torture, even using family as leverage, but they rarely slaughtered entire families.
The transition of Sparrow Wood Castle was peaceful, just as it was when handed from the Earl to the Salvation Army, without a single death.
The banner of the Lion Heart Knight Order entered the castle, welcomed at the gate by none other than Count Thelon Gard, who had previously been 'invited' to return.
The Count's manner was as flamboyant as ever, shaking the Referee Chief's hand excitedly, probably grateful they had arrived so timely.
The expressionless Referee Chief glanced at the priests and nuns within the castle, then back at the Earl; his lips moved, seemingly saying something.
Though Rayden couldn't lip-read his words, from Count Thelon's ecstatic expression, it could be seen that the Gard family's difficulties seemed to have passed, and they were even rewarded for their piety.
After all, from the Church Court's standpoint, they didn't want people to think it was the Holy Maiden who saved them; a devout Count better suited their narrative.
Just like how King Ryan would rather praise a swine than laud the greatness of the "Light of Praise", the Church Court certainly had its own considerations.
This lucky swine!
Rayden didn't really want to look at him; having confirmed that the people in the castle were safe, he diverted his gaze from him, casting it upon "Radiant Knight" Heigmer Devalu beside him.
His mood seemed dreadful, his face as dark as if it could wring out water, and that seemed to be after some tempering.
Speaking of which, they were from Griffin Cliff Territory.
Rayden couldn't help but recall an old rumor; Heigmer and Count Wivert seemed to be old acquaintances, and both were mainstays of the Kingdom, with presumably a close private relationship...
Even though they buried Count Wivert's family after capturing Griffin Cliff Castle, clearly, this blood debt wouldn't be resolved just like that.
Just then, Heigmer suddenly lifted his head, and Rayden promptly lowered the binoculars without a second's hesitation.
Grega lightly coughed, interjecting.
"I suggest you don't stare at the Demigod for too long; a Demigod is a Demigod because one foot has already stepped into the realm of the Divine."
