Chapter 357 Different Destinies
Chapter 357 Different Destinies
As evening fell, Liu Jinnian walked out of Diqi, where he is now the CEO.
In recent years, Si Chu has trusted him more and more, entrusting him with many affairs. However, as he looked at the darkening sky, there was no relaxation between his brows. Yan Lan had been missing for several years, and he had sent people to search for her everywhere, but there was still no news.
As he grew older, he received frequent phone calls from his family urging him to get married. In the end, he married Yan Xue, but this marriage was not sincere at all for him.
The phone in my pocket suddenly vibrated, and the words "Yan Xue" on the screen were particularly glaring.
The voice on the other end sounded impatient: "Jin Nian, where are you? Come pick me up quickly. We're going back to the Liu family for dinner tonight. Don't keep Mom and Dad waiting."
Liu Jinnian leaned against the car, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the car door, and said in a flat tone, "I know, I'll be right there."
After hanging up the phone, Liu Jinnian got into the car but didn't start the engine for a long time. It wasn't until the dashboard lights made his face look gloomy that he slowly pressed the accelerator. But the car seemed to be out of control and eventually stopped at the gate of Beijing Medical University.
He turned off the engine, staring at the familiar tree-lined path inside the school gate, his eyes filled with complex emotions. Back to the Liu family?
His parents' nagging, "You're not getting any younger, it's time to let Yan Xue give the Liu family a child," still echoed in his ears, and the trivial matters at home were making him feel suffocated.
He pulled out his cigarette pack, took out a cigarette, lit it, and in the swirling smoke, he thought of the past. Back then, he was still the self-disciplined and meticulous "genius doctor Liu" in everyone's eyes, rarely even staying up late, let alone smoking.
But in recent years, everything has changed.
After finishing half a pack of cigarettes, he stubbed them out and prepared to leave, but out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly caught a glimpse of a familiar figure walking past the school gate.
His heart skipped a beat, and he almost immediately pushed open the car door and chased after her, calling out in a low voice, "Yan Lan?"
But the person had vanished without a trace. Liu Jinnian stood there, the evening breeze ruffling his clothes, a wave of self-mockery washing over him: "Liu Jinnian, after all these years, what are you still hoping for?"
On the other side, Yan Lan was walking towards the cafeteria with Senior Sister Sun, and she could hear Senior Sister Sun's hearty laughter: "Lan Lan, you don't know, when I first stayed on as a lecturer last year, the students thought I was a new counselor!" Han Yan followed behind, carrying Xiao Yanchao, and added with a smile: "More than that, last time I came to pick her up, some students came over and asked me if Teacher Sun had a boyfriend."
Yan Lan burst out laughing at the two of them: "Senior Sister Sun is still so popular, how about we have a romance between an older woman and a younger man?"
Senior Sister Sun rolled her eyes.
The three of them found a window seat in the cafeteria and sat down. Senior Sister Sun put a piece of pork rib on Xiao Yanchao's plate and asked softly, "How have you been these past few years abroad? Looking at your WeChat Moments, Xiaochao has grown up so fast."
Yan Lan scooped up a spoonful of soup and blew on it to cool it down, her tone gentle: "I'm doing quite well, but sometimes I miss you all."
Han Yan sighed: "We were all quite worried when you suddenly left."
Yan Lan looked up, a hint of relief flashing in her eyes: "It's all in the past, and things are fine as they are now."
By the time they finished eating and left the cafeteria, it was completely dark. Han Yan opened the car door, and Yan Lan, holding the sleeping Xiao Yanchao, got in. Looking at the streetlights flashing past the window, she sighed softly, "I never imagined that so much would happen while I was away these past few years."
Han Yan said softly, "Singapore has changed a lot, but we've always been here."
Yan Lan smiled and said nothing more—since her divorce from Qin Shi, her mind had been entirely focused on her son, and she had long forgotten about the old people and things in Xingzhou, including the Liu family.
While sitting in the car, Yan Lan's gaze inadvertently fell on the billboard by the roadside, and her pupils contracted slightly—the female celebrity on the billboard had exquisite makeup and a bright and beautiful posture, but her face looked strangely familiar to her.
She asked in surprise, "Is that Liu Shiyu?" Her tone was somewhat uncertain. In her memory, Liu Shiyu was still a little girl, completely different from the coquettish appearance in front of her.
Han Yan followed her gaze and said with a hint of casual sarcasm, "It's her. Not long after you left, I found out that she failed her college entrance exam and was pregnant. It's a secret in the industry, not many people know about it. She didn't go to university and signed with an entertainment company, and they packaged her like this now."
Yan Lan was stunned for a moment, then asked, "How did you suddenly get pregnant?"
"With that person?" Han Yan scoffed, tapping her fingers lightly on the steering wheel. "Back then, she and Song Chi were inseparable, secretly tasting the forbidden fruit. As a result, Song Chi was later sentenced to prison because of some dirty business at the small clinic, and the Song family didn't last long before it declined."
Liu Shiyu, ever opportunistic, immediately tried to sever ties with the Song family, but before she could completely extricate herself, she discovered she was pregnant.
At this point, Han Yan paused, a hint of coldness appearing in her eyes: "She originally wanted to abort the child, but how could Song Chi's mother let her off the hook? She threatened her with evidence, saying that if she dared to touch the child, she would expose all the facts about her being pregnant out of wedlock."
She had no choice but to give birth, which completely disrupted her college entrance exam preparation, and she ultimately failed.
Han Yan added, "It's quite a coincidence that in the same year of the college entrance examination, Qin Shengsheng, who was always said to be good for nothing, surprisingly became the top scorer in the liberal arts, and completely went down a different path from Liu Shiyu."
Yan Lan knew about Qin Shengsheng's situation.
Although she had left the Qin family back then, she persisted in tutoring Qin Shengsheng until the very end because of her previous promise.
Not only Qin Shengsheng, but also several other children, including Cheng Lingling, did well in the college entrance examination that year, and even the worst student was admitted to a key university.
She stopped paying attention to how the others fared in college or what paths they took after graduation.
She remembered that every year those students would send her one or two emails, telling her about their recent lives, but she was afraid of being reminded of the past, so she never replied.
If you think about it, those people have all graduated by now, and I wonder how they are doing now.
Yan Lan thought to herself and casually took out her phone, where she saw several emails.
These were sent by Qin Shengsheng. She reads all the New Year's greetings emails every year, but never replies. These few, however, are new, and there were several in a row. Could it be that something happened to Qin Shengsheng?
Just as Yan Lan was about to open the email, Han Yan slowly brought the car to a stop. The streetlights below the apartment building fell directly onto the car window, illuminating Yan Lan's gentle profile as she held Xiao Yanchao.
After seeing Yan Lan upstairs, Han Yan left.
After Yan Lan took her son back to his bedroom, she opened her emails to check them.
Upon seeing this, she frowned slightly, momentarily at a loss for words to answer Qin Shengsheng.
Qin Shengsheng wants to hire her as Qin Xi's teacher.
