Chapter 571 Promise
Chapter 571 Promise
The horse chestnut tree is known as the sacred tree of Buddhism. It is nearly a thousand years old. From a distance, the clusters of flowers look like small white pagodas and are very sacred.
The young monk put his hands together and faced the horse chestnut tree, silently praying: May all my wishes come true, and all my wishes be granted~
Prince Jue and Chu Chu stood under the horse chestnut tree, also clasping their hands together and raising them above their brows, as if they had a wish, and were very pious.
It was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. No one in the back said anything, and they all raised their clasped hands to their foreheads.
Going further ahead, the young monk left everyone behind and said, "To the right, you can enter several large halls. Donors should go in and burn a few incense sticks, and then wait outside."
He only signaled Jiao Zhongjue and Chu Chu to follow, and even the follower was unable to follow in.
They walked forward and passed a small wooden door, which separated the inside from the temple in front. Without the solemnity and bustling noise of the temple, it was even quieter like a paradise.
The rows of houses were neat and clean. They should be the backyard meditation rooms where the monks lived. It was very quiet along the way. Apart from a little monk sweeping the floor, there was basically no one to be seen.
Until I saw a small courtyard built at the back. The house was not much different from the Zen room in the front, but it was more quiet. After entering the gate and standing in the yard, you could see the towering trees behind the yard and the little squirrels jumping on the trees.
Chu Chu didn't look around, but she felt that this small courtyard must have a small door leading to the back, with a separate entrance and a separate house naturally separated from the front. It was really a good place for quiet meditation.
Sure enough, there was a courtyard within a courtyard. The young monk guarding the gate did not stop them. They went in from the front courtyard and there was another courtyard at the back, all of which were shaded by green trees. They saw a row of five houses hidden under the shade of the trees.
The young monk went to the middle room and knocked on the door gently. When there was no response, he led them in.
The room is very simple. Except for the tea table, chairs and bookcase which are in rustic black, everything else is gray and white, just like what a Zen temple should look like.
Standing at the door of the house, you can vaguely see that there is another room inside, which is also furnished with a simple bed and the bedding is neatly folded, without a trace of extra things.
There was only one person sitting at the tea table. He was bald with a sparse gray beard. He was quite old, with the usual thin and vigorous look of a monk. When he saw them raise their heads slightly, he did not stand up. He just nodded to signal them to sit opposite him, and also put his hands together and said "Amitabha".
Chuchu followed Brother Jue and clasped her hands together. Jiao Zhongjue said, "Please help, Master."
The young monk closed the door and went out, without saying a word from beginning to end.
"The altar has been set up. You two will go and burn three sticks of incense for the princess later. You don't have to come to the temple for seven days. The princess's only remaining soul in the mortal world will be able to leave without worries."
When Master Huitong said this, he looked at Jiao Zhongjue, as if waiting for his reply.
Jiao Zhongjue nodded: "Let mother rest assured." Then he held Chuchu's left hand tightly under the table: "Master, please tell mother that we will do as she wishes and everything will be fine."
It was still very quiet. He poured them each a cup of tea almost silently. After watching both of them take a sip, Master Huitong signaled Jiao Zhongjue to stay, but called the little monk at the door in.
He told the young monk, "The young donor has a connection with the Buddha in the third hall. Take her there to burn three incense sticks."
Knowing that Master Huitong must have something to say to Brother Jue in private, Chu Chu said goodbye and backed out of the room, following the little monk.
Hearing the door close, until they walked away and seeing Jiao Zhongjue seemed to have something to say, Master Huitong spoke: "All things are born, all are predestined, the day of birth is determined, there is no need to seek."
After a long silence, Jiao Zhongjue wanted to speak again, but Master Huitong spoke first: "Past lives, present lives, and future lives, the past is predetermined by heaven."
The two sentences seemed to say nothing, but Jiao Zhongjue felt that they seemed to have made clear what he wanted to ask.
Seeing that the master no longer poured him tea, Jiao Zhongjue knew that there was no point in saying more, so he stood up, bowed, and then left.
After asking the young monk guarding the gate where Chuchu was going, Jiao Zhongjue followed him.
Let’s talk about the hall that the little monk brought Chuchu to. Standing in front of the hall, Chuchu looked up and saw three large golden characters: "Medicine Master Hall".
This is the third hall of Lingyin Temple. It has a single-layer, double-eaved hip roof, seven bays on the front and three bays deep. Statues of Medicine Buddha, Sun God and Moon God are enshrined in the hall. Seated in cross-legged position on a lotus pedestal is Medicine Buddha, while standing on the left is Sunlight Bodhisattva, holding up the sun, symbolizing light; standing on the right is Moonlight Bodhisattva, holding up the moon, symbolizing coolness. They are collectively known as the "Three Holy Ones of the East".
The twelve statues on both sides of the main hall are the twelve disciples of Medicine Buddha, known as "Medicine Boys" or Yaksha Generals.
Chu Chu was a little dazed. The master was indeed a man of great enlightenment. He actually knew that she and Medicine Ancestor had a connection. Could he also know about her supernatural powers?
She took the three incense sticks handed to her by the little monk, knelt on the cushion and kowtowed respectfully, inserted the incense into the incense burner in front of her, and crawled on the cushion again. Suddenly, she felt a little sleepy, as if a god was guiding her.
I thought it was just a dream, but when Chu Chu woke up, she just felt refreshed and she didn’t know how long she had been crawling there.
When she walked out of the palace, she saw Brother Jue waiting for her quietly.
The two men said nothing, but just followed the young monk who was leading the way and went straight inside. After leaving the three main halls, the view behind them suddenly became clear. They were led into a small compartment where an altar had been set up, incense and candles had been lit, and some clothes were placed in front of the incense and candles.
Jiao Zhongjue didn't need any instructions. He went straight up and took six incense sticks, lit them, and gave three to Chuchu. They stood and bowed three times, and then the two of them knelt on the cushion in front of them.
The little monk, who had held the incense above his head, helped them plug it in and left without waiting for them.
"Mother, my child has grown up safely and will live the rest of his life as you wish. Please rest in peace."
Chuchu bowed her head and listened silently to Brother Jue's words. Thinking of the gentle and kind voice that guided her to find Brother Jue, she swore silently in her heart: "Aunt, Brother Jue will not be lonely. Chuchu will promise you to accompany him for the rest of his life."
As they prostrated themselves, a wisp of green smoke gently brushed over their heads, as if lingering there. It circled a few times before floating toward the open window.
Chu Chu didn't realize at that moment that she had already promised her whole life here.
