Chapter 2180 - 2181: Bitter Struggle
Chapter 2180 - 2181: Bitter Struggle
As he pointed with his sword finger, one could see at the tip of that finger a sharp edge protruding about an inch. That was caused by Spiritual Energy overflowing outside his body, forming a razor edge that was about to collide in midair with the sword tip.
Greed filled the eyes of the black figure; his gaze did not fall on Lin Chen, but dropped to the sword's body, bursting with an extremely intense desire.
"Let me see just how durable this Spiritual Treasure really is!"
Just now he had not gone all out, but what surprised him was that the sword in Lin Chen's hand, after enduring that strike, was actually completely unscathed. This piqued his interest.
Unconsciously, the black figure's attacks grew a few degrees more ferocious.
The sharp force between his fingers pierced the flow of air, meeting the sword blade Lin Chen was swinging toward him.
Point against edge!
There was no dazzling radiance. When the two met in midair, they only produced a faint ringing sound. Especially the sword in Lin Chen's hand, which trembled lightly, letting out a soft hum that seemed like a wail.
Though that sound was exceedingly pleasant to the ear, along with it Lin Chen's body was shaken back several steps.
He swallowed lightly, forcing down the blood that was about to surge up from his throat.
"Still too weak."
Lin Chen knit his brows slightly.
The gap in Spiritual Energy between the two was truly somewhat large, and on top of that, the techniques the black figure used were quite formidable. With one rising and the other falling, Lin Chen could not even unleash the attack he had gathered in the sword before being forced back.
But the black figure remained standing exactly where he was, not moving an inch.
"What a fine sword!"
His pupils slowly dilated, the greed in his eyes almost tangible. The material of this sword seemed to be extremely special; even under his full-power strike the blade remained completely undamaged. From this one could see how extraordinary this sword was.
Roar…
Suddenly, an enraged roar sounded from behind the black figure. It was that Monkey King, seemingly drawn over by Lin Chen's battle. It slightly lowered its head and then raised it high, its blood-red pupils staring fixedly at the black-clad figure in front of it, eyes surging with boundless hatred.
"I'll deal with you later."
The black figure cast it a brief glance and didn't pay any more attention. At this moment his entire focus was on Lin Chen.
Originally, he had come here after calculating that by now this Monkey King should almost be exhausted from being tormented by Evil Qi. He had come precisely to take the Monkey King back and refine it into a puppet to bolster his own strength.
But now it seemed there might be… an unexpected gain.
His pupils suddenly widened as his figure shot out.
"So fast…"
Just at this moment, Meng Shan happened to lift her head from tending to the Fire Monkey's wounds. She only saw a blur of black sweep past, lifting the fine hairs at her forehead, and in the span of a dazed heartbeat, that figure had already closed in beside Lin Chen.
Lin Chen had long since steeled himself. His face remained calm, but his movements showed his seasoned ease born of countless battles.
Even though there was a disparity in strength, Lin Chen used the sword as a barrier, whirling it around his body, blooming layers of sword flowers that blocked all of the black figure's attacks outside.
"Let me see just how much you can block!"
The black figure barked coldly, a vicious glint flashing in the slits of his narrowed eyes. His Spiritual Energy was several times denser than Lin Chen's, and his offensive power was many times stronger as well.
Even if Lin Chen relied on the sword's durability to withstand the blows, the impact on the black figure himself was basically negligible.
Lin Chen, however, grew somewhat weakened under this dense, raindrop-like barrage. His right wrist that held the sword grew increasingly sore.
Though his body was protected by Spiritual Energy, the attacks themselves were entirely real, and the immense force kept transmitting from the sword into him.
Even so, Lin Chen felt no fear. When his right hand began to ache, he quickly switched to his left hand, thereby easing the soreness in his right. The black figure's attacks were swift, but Lin Chen's recovery of Spiritual Energy and the resilience of his body were no joke, so he did not feel an unbearable pressure.
Only his internal organs were shaken rather violently, and a trace of blood seeped from the corner of his lips.
"Big brother…"
Meng Shan, standing off to the side, naturally didn't know the exact situation there, but seeing the blood gradually spill from the corner of Lin Chen's mouth, her heart clenched with anxiety. This scene involuntarily reminded her of that night a few days ago when the village was burned into nothingness.
Wave after wave of stabbing pain assaulted Meng Shan's heart, making her whole body tremble, and a surge of anger rose from the depths of that pain.
In an instant, she grabbed a few pieces of rubble from the ground and clenched them tightly in her hands, then hurled them viciously toward the black figure.
But she was still young; though her aim was decent, the attack was slow and feeble. Before the stones could reach the black figure, they were already blocked by the protective Spiritual Energy that overflowed around him and fell to the ground.
"Smash you to death, you bad man."
Meng Shan ignored all this. She only felt that the person before her was a villain. Even if the stones she threw were useless, that could not stop her. She frantically scooped up more rocks from the ground and flung them out, more like she was venting.
"Courting death!"
Although the black figure had not been injured in the slightest by Meng Shan, the fact that he had yet to break through Lin Chen's defense already had him faintly enraged, and that anger only flared hotter at Meng Shan's actions.
His eyes bulged with fury as he twisted slightly to the side, casting a sidelong glance at Meng Shan, who was crouched on the ground gathering stones. With a sweep of his great sleeve, the stones that had been about to hit him changed direction in midair and turned, shooting straight toward Meng Shan's thin little body!
"Watch out!"
Lin Chen's heart lurched the moment he saw this. Those returning stones were nothing like the ones Meng Shan had thrown earlier. They were incredibly fast, and by the time Lin Chen shouted his warning, one of the stones was already about to shoot into Meng Shan's eye!
Lin Chen's pupils contracted. At this distance he was far too late to overtake that flying attack, and with an opponent in front of him blocking his way, he could still barely cope for himself, but to break free and save her was simply unrealistic.
At Lin Chen's warning, Meng Shan froze slightly. She turned her gaze toward him, but then an alien object slowly enlarged in her vision, blocking her line of sight as it grew.
After all, she was just a ten-year-old girl. She stared blankly at the returning stone, and the imminent attack left her mind a complete blank; she had no idea how to react.
Yet just as Lin Chen was inwardly strung tight and Meng Shan was dazed, a figure suddenly flashed out and stood in front of her.
The several incoming attacks slammed into the figure shielding Meng Shan.
The stones pierced clean through that body, then shot forward a few more inches before stopping, while scalding hot blood gushed like a fountain from the wounds.
