Chapter 1152: Brothers Reunited
Chapter 1152: Brothers Reunited
Although Zhuo Geng scoffed at Fafnir’s existing power, he nonetheless took his son’s advice to a certain extent, personally leading a team to Half Moon Gorge while instructing his clan uncle, the semi-retired Grand Elder, to prepare reinforcements to remain stationed at the Dragon Realm in case of unexpected events for swift rescue. With such preparations, the Dragon King believed everything was foolproof. He then led the assembled troops the next day, quietly heading to Half Moon Gorge in human form. Originally, the Dragon King wanted his son to stay at the Dragon Realm, but Salafam was worried about his father’s safety and was eager to avenge the humiliation of defeat in the investigation hall against Fafnir. Therefore, after repeated requests, Zhuo Geng had no choice but to take him along.
The group of more than two hundred people moved low through the dense forest, deliberately slowing their speed and altitude to avoid detection by the other party. Even so, the entire team reached the outskirts of Half Moon Gorge after two hours. At this point, under Salafam’s insistence, the Dragon King’s initial intent to launch a direct attack was hindered and he had to send his deputy to scout the situation within the gorge first.
"Rego, what’s the situation inside the gorge?" Zhuo Geng asked the trusted deputy who returned after reconnaissance.
"Nothing unusual, the number is roughly similar to what the Young Clan Leader mentioned, but Fafnir seems to have sensed our impending arrival, gathering his people as if preparing to leave." Rego truthfully reported his observations.
"Then we came at just the right time! Salafam, do you have any concerns now?" Zhuo Geng exclaimed in joy after hearing the news, then turned to his son and asked with a smile.
Rego was an Ancient Dragon with unquestionable strength and loyalty, having served as his father’s deputy for years. Since his reconnaissance confirmed no errors, there was nothing to worry about. Salafam saw this and nodded to his father, indicating no objections.
Seeing this, Zhuo Geng waved his hand, and there was no longer any need to hide their forms. The loud and high-pitched dragon roars echoed, one giant dragon after another soared into the sky, simultaneously multiple spatial confinement arrays enveloped Half Moon Gorge.
In an instant, more than two hundred giant dragons blotted out the sky, passing over the gorge, with their massive bodies turning the day into night in the gorge. The scattered light spots shining through the gaps of the dragons’ wings illuminated the panicked and terrified cries of the Dragon Race trapped within the gorge.
Faced with this scene, Dragon King Zhuo Gen felt very satisfied. Without transforming into dragon form, he descended slowly with his son’s deputy and several trusted aides, hovering above Half Moon Gorge. Looking at the chaotic crowd below, he snorted coldly and roared: "Look at you, is there any semblance of the Dragon Race left? After separating from the Dragon Realm, have you abandoned even the pride of the Dragon Race? Screaming like pigs awaiting slaughter. I’m giving you time to organize your ranks; now let my dear brother, your leader Fafnir, come out to meet me."
With Zhuo Geng’s angry shout, the chaos in the gorge came to an abrupt halt. The Dark Race truly reformed their formation as he had said, and before long, a figure emerged, flying into the air and suspended before Zhuo Geng.
"It’s rare, my dear brother remembers he has me as a sibling. You are still as majestic as ever, surrounded by a fanfare when you travel," the newcomer, none other than the called Fafnir, stood firm and looked at the crowd behind Zhuo Geng, unable to hold back sarcastic comments.
"Fafnir, the you I know isn’t someone who relies on lip service. The situation is already clear; I won’t say much else. You see the current circumstances; for the sake of your people, surrender obediently and come back with me to the Dragon Realm; a fair result will be given to you within the clan," Zhuo Geng observed his brother in front, slightly reducing his anger, and sighed, advising sincerely.
"Fair? It’s execution!" Fafnir retorted disdainfully.
"At least your people might get a chance to atone; they might survive! After all, we are of the same race!" Zhuo Geng’s fire rose again after seeing Fafnir’s attitude, growling lowly.
"People? My dear brother, have you ever regarded us as your people? Compared to me, your brother, and these people you call your clan, those Daoist Race bastards are closer to you, right? I’ve heard that your son, our pride Saraf, has already been betrothed to Long Jin, the daughter of the Dragon Race in the Daoist Realm. Now even the prohibition of intermarriage between the two races has been lifted; what kind of offspring will they produce? Monsters?"
Faced with Fafnir’s demeaning words toward the Clan Leader, Hydra, one of Zhuo Geng’s right-hand men, angrily shouted, "Silence! Fafnir, you traitor! This marriage was agreed upon by both sides and blessed by the Ancestral God, how can you speak out of place here."
"I’m a traitor? Hydra, you dare utter this word before me; don’t forget who saved your life in the war against the Daoist Race, it was Ladon! But he died, right in the hands of Long Jin’s uncle, blessed in this newlywed pair you boast about! Do you think you’re worthy of those words to your friend who charged the enemy three times to save you?"
Fafnir’s questioning left Hydra momentarily speechless, unsure of how to respond. At this point, Salafam interjected, "Uncle! Those things are already past; under the mediation of the Ancestral God, the two races have stopped the senseless sacrifice and jointly rule the Dragon Realm. Why do you cling to the past events! Do you want the two races to fight to death, to fight until mutual destruction, to satisfy your mind?"
"Salafam, I warned you last time we met. You, who didn’t even participate in the great war between the two races, are not qualified to speak in front of me!"
"Then am I qualified!" Dragon King Zhuo Geng saw Fafnir’s proud attitude, reprimanding his son. He stepped forward, shouting loudly, and tore off his shirt, revealing the variety of scars across his still robust, albeit somewhat elder, upper body.
Seeing his brother speak up, Fafnir still showed some respect, and closed his mouth. Zhuo Geng pointed to his upper body coldly and snorted: "Fafnir, do you not understand the reality between our two races that the younger generations are unaware of? Back then, the ancestors of both sides fled here to avoid the hunting of humans from the Daoist and Magic Realms. It was the Ancestral God who had yet to reach perfection that took us in! Sheltered us! It was the old man who withstood pressure from both planes, mediating and balancing, leading to today’s Dragon Realm. Why are creatures from the Hell Plane rare in our world today? Because those creatures were sealed into the purgatory by their Master of Origin, the Demon God! Without the protection of the Ancestral God, would our fate be any better than theirs? Now, you ungrateful being dare disrespect the Ancestral God; it’s enough to execute you ten times for this crime alone!"
